New Years resolution

Postby Dell'Orto » Mon Jan 01, 2007 1:00 pm

For the forum - to improve the place to something that we can all be proud to be a part of.
To this effect, we will have effectively a zero tolerance on spam/misleading answers in the tech section. I for one dont want to see anymore "My mate did this..." type of replies to questions. Unless the experience is first hand, its probably misleading.
There will be more changes in the upcoming year, which we hope will also improve the community as a whole.

Otherwise, I hope you've all made it into the new year safe and well - lets have a brilliant 07 ;)

I dont know about everyone else but i come on here cos its a good read and i love the trash talk...

If it was all robotic with single posts to answer it would be boring...

Is toyspeed a technical reference site or a community?

That's right.. I check it less and less these days because everyone's taking everything too seriously. Toyspeed is about guys that own/like Toyotas and therefore fun, isn't it?

so its ok to give shitty advice and have people hurt themselves or damage there cars
is that some sort of sick twisted enjoyment for you
talking shit is talking shit
but when people start asking questions were life limb and money are involved there has to be some sort of responsibility
if you cant grasp that then you need to(in chopper reids words) harden the $&#$% up toyspeed

Totally agree Vvega. There are plenty of other places for people to talk crap on the forum. The tech section ought to be a place for reliable information.

Perhaps members could be graded on their perceived technical knowledge (rather than by number of posts) so we can judge for ourselves how reliable the advice given is likely to be.

Some of you seem to have missed the part where I said "tech section".
I'm not saying we're not going to let the babble in OT continue, thats what that section is for.
Toyspeed has always been fairly well known for its sound technical section, and thats the main focus - to keep it sound.

get rid of the $&#$%. i realise that by saying that i myself risk being "gotten rid of" but hey. if this place wasnt such a fuking spam show then maybe it would be taken a little more seriously by others and some of the members themselves.

good to see a few people got the big ban over night... brad... you really are a lifeless geek. thank god for fluffers like yourself.please dont ban me i love you

What happens when the people that are qualified to comment dont have time to answer all the questions?

Better they remain unanswered or better that a pleb that happens to have experience in that particular scenario makes a comment?

Ban repeated idiots but let the people talk!

Then ban the people that make up random crap...

its a forum.

the only way you will have fresh experience coming in to make contributions is if they are free to do so. Or are you proposing everyone goes through a toyspeed certification program in order to prove they wont make up random crap?

either that or the tech questions section will turn into stagnant pool of people who are known to the mods to have the required experience to answer...

diversity man... this is a technically strong community of people... we all benefit from eachothers experience be it bad experiences or good experiences...

I look at these forums daily and i cant remember recently seeing bad advice given that wasnt identified as such fairly quickly... im sure if im wrong youll tell me fairly quickly
