Postby evil_si » Sat Jan 06, 2007 11:42 am

a few of ya know ive been playing with thisfor a while, and keep asking how its coming along,
for those that havent seen her heres a lil insight
1999 altezza,
originally a beams 3sge, removed and replaced with 1998 2jzgte, :D
W58 gear box, made up shifter housing and linkages to position it exactly were i wanted it. custom alloy gearbox mount
custom billet flywheel, twin plate clutch 2900lb pressure plate
factory twins removed and replaced with twin T70's on individual manifolds
no wastegates on exhaust side they will be free boosting,
boost control will be done on the intake, have set up a 60mm w/g to control boost level and double as a bov.
massive engine and powersteering oil coolers
all oil hoses have been replaced with stainless braided hoses
exhaust full stainless, twin 3" down pipes merging into full 3" system,
600 x 300 x 100 intercooler, 3" alloy piping
under body surge tank, just running 1 bosch 044 700hp pump at moment, will decide when its tuned if it will be enough.
running apexi coilovers and stainless brake lines

since these pics were taken theres just a few small things to finish now,
once the ecu arrives we can pretty much turn the key..

This car gets Akane's "friggin' extreme" seal of approval _b
PS: you should put the wastegate "let off valve" on the other side, so the air that's not needed does not have to go through the restriction of the intercooler.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
http://www.lol.co.nz/ random shit.

will those turbos handle freeboosting for long? i know a few drag cars run setups similar to that.

should be interesting when complete to say the least

daily driver :D

dont know if the turbos will handle free boost for long, will soon find out they are cheap enough so not too worried at this stage, but wont be held at full throttle for too long 8) so i dont think il will be a problem.

had a link ecu, came with engine all wired in, but some dirty fu*ka pocketed it from my last place.

power wise who knows, someone kinda worked out the turbos flow up to 620hp each or 1100 hp combined, dont want any were that thou, dont even know when the .86 housings will spool up, so a bit of trial and error to be had.

as for what we hope to get or what it will handle we have no idea at this stage, lots of figures have been thrown around, we shall let the dyno do the talking when shes ready.

HANRE really i mean theres only just enough room for the 2, were would the other 4 go,
i should have kept my mouth shut earlier in the project, it originally had 1 turbo, then i starting talking about making it twin and adam turned up with a second so i kinda had to.

im fascinated by the idea of freeboosting the turbos on the exhaust side. i know gtr700 in oz uses/used a similar idea where the engine used all the boost the turbos made, with no form of boost control.that was a drag car tho doing 8 second runs.

my turbo lasted about half a lap of manfield free boosting with a small boost leak in the piping  but then thats a small ballbearing bugger that was half dead anyway. the larger plain bearing turbos might fare a bit better.

big respect for trying something pretty out there tho.

i think they will be fine, i doubt the 3litre will push them very hard,
they are .86 exhausts if they were smaller id be a bit more cautious

diesels have been using turbos that free boost for years, but in saying that they are perfectly matched to the engine, and im just playing with these.

Holy crap!

Haha I don't think people should be too worried about it excessively boosting any time to soon as if they are "70mm inducer" style T70s its not going to go for any large amount of boost any time too soon. Even a single one would need in the territory of 4500rpm to get ~20psi.

Nicely put together, though not quite what I'd normally call a street car setup! 8O
