Campbell Live Tonight - Please lend me 5 min of your time!!

Postby hipsi » Tue Mar 13, 2007 3:34 pm

Hey all, Campbell live is about to have a Boy racer, Car Enthusiast, and bogan bashing (I use all terms because I think it will reflect on everyone) tonight, and it annoys the sh*t outa me that after such a successful weekend down here in Chch (the SI champs was AWESOME - well done Azhar) They still want to report old news. The headline is 'The garden citys Boyracer problem - can it be stopped?' As far as I'm concerned its old news and we are just going to have a fresh lot of people thinking we are menaces. If everyone who has 5 min could flick them a mature email that would be muchly appreciated. They need to know its not fair categorizing us all in the same file, that most of us are very well behaved and just do it for the love of our cars. We have the biggest car enthusiast population (per head of pop) in the world.

Thanks all!! Good luck. It airs tonight at 7 so any emails before then should make all the difference.

obviously not much news to report on this week, so we will bring up the "boy racer topic this week"

But it did make me ponder what caliber of crowd they are expecting on this weekend when they have this on offer as their highlight....

Win $500 in the wet t shirt comp
Win a set of Modgies in the Car Bash
Burnout comp
Engine blow comp.

now i dont mind the wet t shirt comp, :D

but the rest of it ?

talk about bollocks, is this what so called "car enthusiests" call a line up for a event
Nothing to see here ...

It would seem that the higher calibre of car enthusiasts prefer trackdays and autocrosses to drags/shows. However, when they're lined up along Colombo st, one idiot in a VL doing a skid blows it for everyone.. and that isn't ever going to change.

Sounds to me like they're targeting specific activity to do with people causing problems, not car enthusiests as a whole.

If thats the case, then its fine by me, because he's targeting the people who go out and do skids, drifts, burnouts, drags etc, on the street, which give the more responsible enthusiests such as MOST of the people here, a bad name!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

the idiot hoon culture has come back into the spotlight in palmy from what i have read... perhaps cambel is jumping on the bandwagon?

At the end of the day we shouldnt have anything to worry about should we? Most of us arnt idiots and those of us who are wont have anything more to fear... the fact remains that if you break the law around a cop you get done...

EDIT: Yeah what adamal said

what i couldnt understand was the last burnout comp i went to.
they had a "who takes off the most clothes wins" contest.

The amount of familys that left because of that was amazing.

once again, its a case of the minority ruining it for everyone else.

But as gets mentioned everytime, if you do nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. 8)

I saw the shorts for this tonight, and i tell you what after watching the footage im gonna jump on the bandwagon and attack those damn boy racers.

Bear in mind i think that there is a distinct difference between:
people who
-have an allright ( read sporty) car to begin with.
-put some mags and a reasonable exhaust on it.
-attend club events and track days etc.

and people who:
- have a nana car with a podie a 5 inch tip and 18 inch chromies au.
- think it is a grand show of the awesome power that their 1500 sohc car displays to get their single wheel (usually front left) squeaking a little bit, then complain about how the cops hate them and pick on them when they are just into their cars.

bollocks these kind of people arnt into their cars, they are after the skanks and the attention. Unfortunatly these kind of munters often cross over into the more powerfull cars as well, this is where definitions become confused.

All of the morons and the dickheads that gave them finance should be chucked in jail.

so true! so many very young people own wrx's/evo's/gtst's and they usually end up writing them off and in serious situations kill themselves/passengers.

I agree with that part. But then...

From what I could see from the ads they only showed a bunch of kids doing burnouts/donuts/racing in the middle of street in a densed up city area. If that's the case then I actually fully support the hype/'Boy Racer' bashing...

All those kids are really is a bunch of dumbshit feckwits, chasing around a whole lot of brainless poon...

Well that was actually reasonable for a change. I quite agree with what they were saying although that guy from christchurch seems to think that bringing the db limit down to 90 will make the car culture go away - or that was what he was implying. Wonder if he's been to the gold coast at night lately seems the car culture over there is still pretty strong.
I like what they thought about just chasing the gross offenders as well, that to me means those who are out at night for no reason other than to cruise/race around, the only time thats going to affect most of us is if we unfortunately get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time in a bunch of idiots but not doing anything wrong but then i avoid boy racer type cruising areas like the plauge late at night when the idiots are out.
I quite like the fact the minister pointed out the fact that the majority of our cars are imported from a country where the rules state 96db as being the max and also that he had a vauxhall 1200 as his 1st car, mean

The only disapointing part of the interview was when that bird got her tits out and they blanked it off, otherwise it would have been informitive and entertaining all at once

ahh memories... *rubs old wounds*

as my grandfather said, he did it when he was young (he still does it), my father did it when he was young (and still does it), i do it and i'm young (and will still do it), and my kids with our genes will do it when they are old enough too. this has been going on for generations, it's just the same shit, but people are focusing on it in different ways now, maybe the more pressure they're putting on it is actually worse?

The biggest problem is that there's a time and place for mischief.....which younger people these days don't seem to grasp.....then again, they seem to lack any form of common sense anyway.

John I think it's fair to say that you and your dad probably don't take things as far as doing big burnouts and donuts in the middle of Te Rapa or Victoria on Friday/Saturday nights? I think that's where the difference comes in...

I don't really care about doing crazy shit when there's no other people involved and it's away on some secluded stretch of road somewhere, but doing in the middle of town or populated areas...?

this is true, i wasn't quite meaning the "au do a skid in front of 50 screaming kids who are too young to be wearing belts like that and almost hit someone", was more meaning into their cars and enjoying them, not being show boats that spend 99% of their times in the garage, or $50 hacks out to be thrashed till dead. the point of owning cars is not only to get from a-b, it's to enjoy doing it, if you don't, take the bus. like many have said, it's the few that $&#$% it up for the many. i know of many a good night on te rapa then being spoiled by one or two doing something stupid. a lot of the time it is outside influence as well, i've noticed when out of town clubs come through, things get crazy. locals trying to prove a point? or visitors thinking hey, it's not our back yard so it's ok to shit here...

Wasn't a bad section on TV, and there are plenty of morons up there. Its not the small few ruining it for everyone, its the mass of excessively noisy cars being loud on purpose in the wrong place.

Blame the kids :) And the muppets with nothing better to do than drive around pissing people off

oops I forgot to add in some emoticon or another there that would have meant that I wasnt being THAT serious.I have no problem thinking about things rationally, I am merely making a point that the desire to make money out of these idiots(including people who sell "performance parts" using gratuitous amounts of keywords on trademe) has made it easier for idiots to do their thing, thus making them partly to blame, i think its quite rational if a little unorthodox.
