Revenue collection?

Postby snwtoy » Sun Aug 24, 2008 10:39 pm

Someone I know got done for 67kmph in a 50 zone, 10m before a 100 sign today. He was accelerating at the time to enter the 100 zone.
Cop was sitting literally right behind the sign with a laser.

What the hell? Surely there's a line and that's crossing it? We have speed limits for saftey reasons, not for revenue collection right?

TBH I'm not sure, would have thought there would be tolerance somewhere in there?

Well with what you described I have the following conclusion.

He was speeding and got rightly ticketed :)

Cheers, didn't know there was a zero tolerance. I need to watch that myself as I have often sped up before the sign, and don't start slowing down in ernest till I get to the sign :?

Yeah there is a line....where the sign is indicating the change in speed zone. He hadn't crossed....quite simple really

I'd say the cop just hadn't got laid lately & was having a bad week, I mean yeah the law says after the sign, but common sense says its better to slowly speed up to the speed limit just before the line.

I mean how many crashes would there be if say at the sign from 100 to 50k everyone slammed on the brakes to slow to 50? My guess is a lot.

I thought it was common practice for the police to not ticket with in 50m of a change of speed sign, sort of a convention, because if they obeyed the letter of the law the roads wouldn't work & drivers would start pressuring the govt or descend anarchy.

Edit: and to think of it, then technically they could get you for doing 50 in a 100 zone 10m past the 100k sign, which is so not on.
I'd challenge the ticket and say nicely hey I was just using common sense & being environmentally friendly and not using sudden acceleration to make smoother traffic flow

with-in the last 12 months there was something on the news about this and that the police were going to crack down on those not following the rules. at the end of the day you are either in a 50kph or 100kph zone.

Legally, your friend is in the wrong, but its still a c*nt of a thing to do.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Rules are rules no matter how unfair \ crap they may seem, if you break them and get caught you pay the fine. Stick to the limits, dont drive like a tosser, dont do silly non legal mods to your car and the cops leave you alone.

Or in my case they pull you over for random inspections, cant find anything wrong and walk away red faced when they find out youre 32 years old and not in their "target age group".

Age aside, if your car is legal and your not doing illegal things then you've got no problem.

What if someone was crossing the road in that 50 zone and your friend hit them at 67 kmh ? or even worse what if slowed down from 100 after the 50 kmh sign ? some people live on or near those boundaries and we as drivers need to exercise caution.

At one stage any ticket issued within 50m of a speed limit change was being thrown out of court because it was deemed to be "unfair". Perhaps the courts have changed their mind about the "fairness" of this practice

There used to be a 100m grace area, but I guess those days have long gone. The cops today are just ticket writing robots. Cant think for them selves anymore. Everything must be by the book. And they wounder why no body likes/respects them anymore

if every one followed the rules to the letter of the law ... as said above that means we all have to suddenly slow down from 100 to 50 when coming into a town from a highway ... fair ? thats the rules

what happens in reality is people slow down from 100 to 50 over say 50 meters rather than just slamming the breaks on and causing a pile up

like wise what has happend here, he has sped up to 100 from whatever speed he was doing,

i wouldnt mind them sitting on the side of the road getting people for speeding, if they did what they are suppose to be there for in the first place, which is serve and protect, not sit and ticket

Im sure most people would being to slow down before then, a little common sense also comes into play when driving. Provided youre doing the stated limit or below at any given time then there should be no issue with the police.

I do agree there are better things they could be doing such as patrolling streets looking for dodgy c**ts, grafitti artists, burglers, rapists, murders, shoplifters etc but it would seem that traffic violations are easier to come by and generate more profit, and so long as there are young teens in modified cars with attitude problems then thats where they will stay.

Dad got a ticket for that a couple of years back from one of those ghey vans.

I slow down gradually BEFORE the 50km sign, even if I end up with X5 riding my back bumper
