Would you be adverse to having ads on Toyspeed?

In an effort to releive mods of having to fork out to fund these forums and the site, would you be willing to have adverts embedded into the forums?

You don't have to buy something or whatever, but just click on a few ads every now and again to show your support.
Its an alternative idea to having to pay an annual fee. A good compromise I'd say.

I'd be willing to support it. Anyone else?

yeah i think its a good idea, almost every other forum do it so i dont see why not. as long as its not supa huge in your face advert for maxi tampons,

toymods has one ontop of every page that just flickers away not really bad at all.

A custom or "I support Toyspeed" tags were offered as a token gesture, vaguely recall custom ones being sold a while back, but not sure if it eventuated

Could also maybe look at up dateing the software? These forums are feeling pretty old school compaired to others. Features like live topic update notification and quick reply are quite handy.

the other issue when you start getting into income and finances is that tax laws etc.
after consulting an accountant we shut that pandoras box before it go too carried away

I use adblock, and I hate ads with passion.
Paying for access is fine with me.

Depends on the ads setup..

I hate how some forums have ads in the thread part.. Like a post... Then 3 ads, then the replies, then more ads.
I dont mind a ad at the top and bottom ,or down the side.

But yeah I'd personally rather pay a joining fee.. If everyone put in $5-$10 a year, that would help wouldnt it?

Its a non-profit forum, im sure the taxman doesnt mind. he isnt interested in the $50 a year anyway.

Id rather pay $10 anually. Can you upgrade to phpBB6 or whatever and set up the ads so members can pay an annual fee to remove the ads?

The thing is there is no income at all, ads or user based. Which is to keep it all simple.

1. I want to see an upgrade on the normal site and the forum. Don't give the usual "if it ain't broke don't fix it" speech. Other orgs update consistantly and there are many more features that could be utilised to good effect.

There are also quite a few designers and web people on toyspeed who would enjoy the opportunity to give back and help build a stronger web presence.

2. The cost of site hosting and bandwidth is cheap. I'm sure I or one of the other web people on these boards would be happy to provide hosting and associated emails for a decent price. My host doesn't even monitor bandwidth usage. Its just storage space on the server, the database and the domain name to take care of.

3. It would actually be nice to see the front page with something more interesting than a splash page that points to the forum.

Half the problem in my view, is anyone with any real power in regards to Toyspeeds direction (or lack thereof) has lost passion/interest. Hence it just lingers going no where. I may be wrong, but it’s more of an observation over the last few years. Other Toyspeereds I have talked to about this feel similar I know.
How you actually fix this, I have no idea.

fine example of what happens when you start charging for memberships etc. as soon as a core group of people leave or lose interest the whole thing fails and you have to go back to where you started. they were a bit more complicated, with msnz affiliation etc, but the general point is there, the same people won't be around forever, and theres no garantee someone will be wiling to step up to take their place.

leave it as is, if it requires ads to keep running, then so be it.
