LeMons 2 hour endurance race at Hampton Downs

Postby chch34 » Fri Sep 25, 2009 9:44 pm

www.LeMons2hour.com

A series of 2 hour endurance races on the club track of Hampton Downs early next year, with a $700 spend limit on the car and performance mods, so its almost identical to F1... lol

Anyone planning on doing this? Its gana be so much fun, im amped, so amped that I bought a deregistered car this week for it. Am I an impulsive spender? Yes.

Cant wait, sick!

I'd be keen for a weekend away up there, and think I might have a fairly competetive car for it to. But I see you have to have a National Race license.

I'm totally new to Motorsport, and have looked at the application form. and Its a little confusing. Do I need to join the local car club before I can apply? Or is that optional?

Yep - you need to belong to a Motorsport NZ affiliated car club. Wanganui have a very active club so it would be a good one to join.
See ya

we're hoping to run a multi car team from HCCC, but dreams are free.

Getting a licence is easy enough.

www.LeMons2hour.com. regs are there. Still not confirmd weather a cage is needed. $700 includes tuning/mods. $700 doesnt go far... lol

So keen.

Few questions pop to mind:

Swapping bits, if we for instance are building a corolla with the non-vented nana spec brakes, what's the legalities of swapping to something a bit less poos if you already have the parts in your big pile of car crap? Is there an agreed nominal value for bits like this? Pickapart rates?

Dumpster diving for parts? How do we prove they cost no $$'s?

Cage is the biggest question, to be honest this will make or break the event as I'm sure you're aware. Since we're talking about disposable shells, welding in $1500 worth of cage really isn't cool

Basically I'm wondering exactly how I would go about using up all the bits and pieces I have lying around, whilst still keeping within the spirit of the rules. I'm not talking about expensive aftermarket gear, just average condition stock standard spares that tend to accumulate.

Pretty sure cage would be sweet, given that the rules say there's no limit on spending on safety gear, not included in the $700.

I'm less worried about the cost of the cage breaking the rules, more like if the idea is to spend $700 on a car, having a mandatory requirement to spend ~2k on safety gear is going to price a lot of people out...

sounds like the guys dad is setting it all up, he works at Hampton Downs, and they are trying to persuade MSNZ to let us use club sport rules with more than 6 cars on the track, for more than 3 laps. ie, car that is safe, up to scrutineers standard, fire ext, standard seats and belts.

Personally id much rather be out there with a cage, but when you have a cage its mandatory to have race seat and harness.

maybe if MSNZ wont budge, the car value will have to be increased to $1500, and make it a 6 hour endurance or something . that would be mint, but much much more expensive to build the car and compete. but more worthwhile spending $1500 on a cage...
