anyone know a this car?

Postby touge_ae101 » Wed May 04, 2011 7:09 pm

looking at buying the old man a race car so wanting something that is going to not need any work and preferably be pretty similar with mine so everything swaps over and don't have to carry as many spares etc.

just wondering if anyone knows some of the history of this car? thought its more than likely someone on here or someone who knows someone...

137kw seems a bit optimistic from a bluetop? does anyone know the engine build specs etc?

yeah thats what i was thinking. from youtube vids i timed it at 1.27ish around hampton downs which is pretty average. even my car is faster than that on my01's!

guy seems pretty straight up so don't want to assume the worst i'm sure its a misunderstanding. just wanting to know if anyone has seen this car at some car club events or talked to the guy at some stage? seems like it is part of puke car club as the vids are at pcc events..

Potentially engine dyno reading? Overall looks like a pretty good price for the bits the car has, particularly cage and seats etc.

I saw it at bright road one year, tidy looking car... owner seemed nice enough.

Buy it and put a blacktop in it

I saw this car around Hampton Downs earlier in the year. The thing hauls ass!!! I talked to the owner and hes a down to earth guy and loves that car. He has built it up from scratch

He was keeping up with a 1967 Camaro that was thrashing it around the track

yeah i got that impression from the auction looks really well looked after.

no point putting a blacktop in it or we would have to spend another $4K getting decent power out of it. needs to be able to keep up with V8's etc on the straights so looking for 4age's with somewhere around 110-120kw in a light shell like a ae82.

it is a good price for the car it is but don't know any details on engine or the brake setup which could need upgrading to twinpots and braided lines. needs a bit of work to make it quicker. 1.28's around hampton is about 8 seconds too slow. could be the driver though.

Given this picture put up on the listing i dont see a bluetop, i see a smallport:

You're better off going and looking over the car tbh, or at least ringing the owner and asking questions to ascertain if it is worth your while.

Agreed. Easily identified by ribbed intake manifold with 4 runners rather than 8 (TVIS).

Although its a Bluetop Radiator!

If it's the one that turned out to one of our events once it didn't go that well (driving related) and he went home shitty cause $100 cars were beating him.

Looks alright but it won't be unleashing beastly power anytime soon

I had an AE101 Silver top (40,000kms on the engine) with a full exhaust system and blacktop extractors running a link G3. Fully tuned with a good number of hours on the dynapac and it managed 104kw atw. or around 140hp.

I would think it must be HP or at the engine in the case of this car.

Either that or my car really sucked

yeah i can imagine it being a hp figure rather than a kw figure as i'm sure you would see a few bling bits if it was making that much power!

so it really only makes the same power as my blacktop which is pretty damn annoyingly slow around the track... it would only be worth while doing it if we pulled that engine out and put a 2zz or 3sge in it really...
