Forota (Ford and Toyota) BDAge (BDA replica 4age)

Postby bzrspeed » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:33 am

Hello
Unsure where to post this, maybe it wrong area.

Here is first work on the replica engine. Am using a 4agze as a base as low compression and stronger piston. Ford Manifold has been modified to fir the 4age head and look good. Carburetor is older one. will be replaced with a reconditioned 2 choke when I finish it but been so busy lately have not had time.

Whoa why the ze pistols? Seriously unless you are turboing DO NOT use.them. the compression will be so low you'll be lucky to make 80hp

Unless the later 8.9:1 comp ones, then they are only abour 0.5:1 different to bluetop comp?

Agree though, more compression would be better.

Stock BDA had 9.0:1 so using same compression ratio to get close to 115hp.
Using AE101 GTZ engine. so should be 8.9:1, with thinner head gasket make 9.0:1 or around that.

I think it looks pretty good.
Manifold took about 3 hours to make fit.

It going to get Ford BDA cam covers modified to suit.

cant help but to hate on this, since you're going backwards performance wise . but is kinda cool seeing a 4age used to replicate another engine.
are you using a bigport or smallport head?

I would of thought you would be using side draft carbs, or did factroy bdas come with the down draft carb?
Very cool though

factory bda came with twin choke ford carburator. The one in picture is single choke.

Exhaust manifold matches 100% perfect.

My Russian comrade, you have a very odd taste in cars. Most people use 4A-GZE bottom end when turbocharging their 4A-GE's. If you going down the path of natural aspirated, you should probably use trumpets off a Silver Top/Black Top or Webber Carburettor like they do in Japan if you don’t want to use Electronic Fuel Injection to simplify tuning. I think you should look at some Japanese car magazines for inspiration on what people do.

i think the question is, Why make something worse than it could be?

as stated to you earlier in another thread, there are very few similarities between 4age and BDA...

Road going version made 115hp. The BD-G in the RS200 made 600hp+

I understand where he is coming from. I build and collect retro mountain bikes, when doing this everything has to be exactly as it was back in the day, or close to it.
I can imagine a bda engine is almost impossible to get now days, and if you can get one it would be very expensive. So this is obviously the next best thing. Going to look, sound and go like a bda.

Next big question is how to increase torque of the 4agze from 109ft/lbs to 120ft/lbs
Anyone has any ideas?

Cheat, like Ford did. They were never 1600cc so if you handy cap yourself to this you will never make the same power/torque.
