AE111 20v Blacktop Mods... HELP NEEDED

Sup guys,

I was just looking for people's opinions on what would be the best mods to do to a standard 4age blacktop just to get that extra power out of it whilst keeping it N.A.

I currently have a TRD Cat back exhaust and 10.2mm Leads. I am currently looking for some aftermarket extractors but am finding it hard..

Any help would be awesome..

Welcome to the board. Check out the tech section and use the search tool near top of page to search for "ae111 and mods" without the " ". It has been covered approximately 14,453 times :wink:

Everything you can modify on them will be covered. Unless you plan to spend a lot of money though there aren't a huge number of cheap mods that will give any proper gains.

Just like any n/a engine, the idea is to get as much air in and out as possible, how far you want to go depends entirely on your pocket.

Decent 4-2-1 headers.
Cold air intake.
Decent service, change all fluids.

Then you'll need to open up the motor and it gets really expensive;

Aftermarket ECU
Port and polish
Silvertop/aftermarket rods
Cams
Higher compression pistons
1800cc conversion.

Personally I'd just do intake, exhaust and ECU.. get some decent brakes and suspension, maybe some chassis bracing and trackday the sh*t out of it.

Could the admins please collate said info and put it in an easier to find section?

Searched using your suggestions and came up with ALOT of irrelevant shit to be honest.

Seems faster to ask the question that's been asked lots of times cause the relevance and promptness of an answer is faster than having to sift through the mundane shit discussed beyond the topic at hand

Short answer to that will be a no. Even if we did, people would still ask questions covered there.

My search may have come up with some irrelevant threads, but it also came up with threads with almost the EXACT same thread title. And which covered the topic at hand quite nicely. Searching is actually a LOT faster, than waiting for people to explain the same things again.

Lets take the first page of search results. I can see information in regards to:

Light ae111 mods,
ae111 exhaust,
ae111 cold air induction,
need help in mods for ae111,
New exhuast system AE111,
Black top air filter and exhaust upgrade,
Blacktop extractors,
What suspension do you use/recommend??,

That is just from the first page of search results and relates, at least in part, to AE111 with blacktop engine. Read all of those and I pretty much guarantee you'll know which way you want to go with your mods and wallet.

You should have got the BZ-R, its the ratios that make those cars quick as hell.

In what situation?

Same power, just different amount of gear changes :lol: Have driven both (on the road not track) and found the 6 speed annoying as I felt like I needed to change a lot sooner /more often than the 5 speed.

But yeah sure, 60kph in 4th @ 4000 with the engine going Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ready to accelerate balls to the wall all the time can be annoying if you're a cruiser

I have a 6speed 20v which also has a 2.5" exhaust yet it doesnt feel or sound like its reving its tits off. I really like the ratios. Passing cars in the country is also great. 5th for passing lanes. 4th if your in a hurry or 3rd if you really want to go.

And at Manfeild I only need 2nd for the hair pin. 3rd and 4th everywhere else.

lol at "accelerate balls to the wall" and "60km/h in 4th" being in the same ballpark

a bit off topic, but can you people please elaborate on the 6-speed-being-a-lot-faster thanks...

r they faster down the quarter mile or something?

Ive owned a 5 speed ae101 and currently drive a 6 speed ae111 bzr, i just dont quite understand how the 6 speed can be a lot faster :? you pretty much top out first gear before you get a good chance to get going with it, from there it doesnt seem to be much difference to me... maybe if i know what to look for i will appreciate it more...

but its definately good for being on the motorway at 100kph, very quiet at 2800 rpm and then down to 5th for overtaking or cruising with a bit of a exhaust tone when im in the mood...

Maybe the correction factors on my butt dyno are different to others but thats how it seems to me, that the 6 speed is just always ready to go, whereas the 5 speed is more relaxed

Just different driving habits. Either way, unless you're sitting high up in the revs, neither is going to get up and go all that quickly. I drive a low revving van most of the time and the levin the rest of the time. Totally different driving habits. Bit of an extreme comparison, but 5 speed vs 6 speed is not much different. You know where the power is, so you are in the gear to suit.

thought it would be. i always hear about how "fast" the 6 speed is. as if its gonna put out more power :roll:

im fine with the ratios on mine, its just not as smooth as I would like it. its kind of clunky/gets stuck into 2nd, and got a minor crunch in 3rd. and sometimes i put it into reverse and it goes go in :x

Assuming everything other than gear ratios are the same and the final ratio is near enough to the same then it should be faster. Power has nothing to do with it really.

Gear ratios on 6speed are not that dramatically different to make it "extremely fast".
The biggest advantage of 6speed on BZR is the LSD.
In fact I would just put the LSD unit from 6speed into the C56 (providing it already doesn't have one > if it superstrut it should do).

Although I would say 6speed 2,3 and 4th are better suited for mountain passes than 5 speed 2,3 and 4th gear.

Are they the actual revs/speed?

Did a test on the way to work (5 speed):
2nd gives ~53km/h @ 4000rpm.
3rd gives ~70km/h @ 4000rpm.

Which leads me back to preferring less gear changes just to drive around I guess.
