Great post.

The supra is called the japanese supercar on tons of video games (bahahaha) and websites.

I think its too gutless to be a supercar personally... plus a supercar surely has to look like a supercar?

I personally believe that Japan never made an actual Supercar until the whole 205kw/280hp bs was lifted. The LFA and *possibly* the R35 are in the supercar club - a stock JZA80/NSX etc = not.

imo

The Supra was just as fast (if not faster) than some Ferrari's and Porsche's of it's time. ;)

Besides, how does it not look like a supercar?! Huge wing, Wide rear gaurds with big tyres, low roofline, huge brakes... what else does a supercar need!?
Cheers,

Back on topic. A sports car cannot be so unless it has immense dandism. Just saying...

Generally for a supercar these are my criteria -
low volume production
impractical for daily use (2 seater, no luggage space etc)
often unreliable as shit, but that has changed over the years
hard to drive, which has also changed a bit over the years
generally mid engined
fast comparative to other cars
some sort of race heritage
people have to think you are a wanker for driving one (when really they just be jealous)

Pretty much
I like to describe a super car as most of the above. but above it it has to be stupid. Or look like it wants to $&#$% ya then eat you.

Interesting... I think your definition seems more reasonable. Although TopGears AW11 MR2 definition: Mid-engine Run-about 2 seater seems more fitting with the SW20's Dandism!

What is a 300zx?

Weighs more than a supra.

roughly the same amount of power.

magazines of the time said it was a brilliant sports car. :D

What about a suzuki cupaccino. Looks like a sports car. RWD, kei class, less power than your little finger and people with size 11 or larger feet can wear them as roller skates.

A sports car does not have to be the fastest.
Look at the original sports cars.
They were open top 2 seater. Then evolved to 2 seater coupes or the occasional 2+2. Often they also had rather small engines and were not the fastest in a straight line.
