What type of tyres do you have?

I thought re002 were just a different tread pattern to re001.

Not sure, just what I got told. So I take it with a large bag of salt But yeah was pretty sure the RE002 won't be bad if the RE001 is sweet. So told em to flag the MY01s as I found out they are average as.

Going by the above comments the MY01 is a pretty shit tyre huh.... I just wanted tyres that handle the jandal especially in the wet. Sounds like the RE002 will do the trick. Tyres isn't something to cheap out on!

What is the useable life of a tyre Tsoob? The current tyres will be a couple/few years old now and have some cracking between the tread.

All Tyres have a date stamped on them, and they do get pretty bad as they get older... the date stamp is 4 numbers on the side wall of the tyre the month and year of manufacture 0111 would be 1st month 2011 etc

Ideally you want the newest rubber you can get

Use able life is like how long is a piece of string..

Keeping them inside and garaged will make them last longer than in the rain and sun etc.

Rubber does perish and its just one of those things you need to replace sometimes

18" 245 and 265 german made Eagle F1 asymmetrics on work emotion cr kai's (a replacement set of rears waiting for the inevitable )

235 and 255 RE001's on the stock 17" wheels, will be used for a couple track days then replaced with some form of slick/semi-slick.

I'm running toyo proxie 4's 225 45 r17 on the front & 235 45 r17 on the back, Have had proxies 4's on the last 3 of my cars & cant fault them.

Car - 1998 AE111 4afe Corolla wagon.
I drive this car very hard - cornering, braking and accelerating (as much as a 4afe can)
Wheels - alloy 6.5x15

Current tyres:
Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 (replaced the GS D3)
195/50/15
Grip - very good, dry or wet. Very impressed.
Response to steering input - good, but nowhere as good as the RE001.
Tends to move and squirm which took me a while to get used to.
Still experimenting with tyre pressures to see if I can improve this

Bridgestone Potenza RE001 Adrenalin
195/50/15
Grip - good
Response to steering input - very good, very direct, minimum squirm even when new with full tread depth.
Got 52,000kms before I replaced them with about 2 - 2.5mm ltread remaining.

Wheels - 15x6.5"

Currently running 195/50-15's front and rear
Front - Toyo Proxies 4's. Was running the same as the rear but a poor alignment wore them out
Rear - Sunfull(?) HF886's. Bought as it was all i could afford when i got my mags

Grips really well on the track when the tyres are at temp but when they aren't it gets a little tail happy when pushed hard.
Never tried anything more expensive so dont have anything to compare them to.

235/45R17 GSD3 are no longer, I got the last two a few weeks ago hehe

Used GSD3 on my AE101, ST205 and ST165. As a road tyre it is very good (although subjectively Chinese made ones were crappier below 4mm).

Running RE001 on ST205 and iST, second set on ST205, awesome road tyre (rate it higher than GSD3), it wears out a bit quicker though than GSD3, but works till the end unlike GSD3.
Second set of RE001 is Australian made (first one was Japanese), and immediately noticed poor workmanship - Australians could not be stuffed trimming the casting excess on one of the tyre, and rest were trimmed but not as well as Japanese. Other than appearance the tyres are as good as Japanese RE001.

My next road tyre probably will be either RE002 or RE11.

On the track RE001 is a bit more predictable than GSD3, but it also not going to last beyond few laps (although it will give you plenty of warning). It took about 5 laps around Hampton Downs for GSD3 to turn into smocking jelly. They are completely unsuitable as track tyre.

If you going to use the car as primarily track day car, don't bother with road tyres, additionally some people call RE11 "semi-slicks", they are not semislicks, RE11S are, and they are very different tyre to RE11.

I am looking at R888 as track tyre, any other options? What about dunlop range?. I am looking for an affordable track day tyre, nothing too fancy....

Heard good things about Nitto NT01 semi-slicks. Similar price if not cheaper than R888 if I remember correctly

Going by the above date marking theories, my rear tyres are from beginning of 2007 - not a bad effort 3-4mm left. Used to be my fronts. Fronts I just got are from about May this year, so that's good to know.

Just got a set of RE002 on my wheels for the lotus 7, have yet to drive on them though, really wanted RE11 but none in stock and they are not going to be holding them anytime soon

Should last a few more laps on the track since the car will only be 600kgs. Didn't want a semi slick to start with while I learn my car (especially with the Manawatu weather!!)

On my daily I have supercats! and for a budget tyre they work pretty well, lot better than trinagles and other random brands etc!!
