EKx/B16B - ET 14.6 - Ali , Trap 152 - Ali (not EK9)

old record. I've done 14.1 with my b16b.

There is only one body shell of Integra that came with the B16A - they learnt quickly that 1600cc just aren't as fun ;)

Lith is on the money again.. lets face it the majority of N/A toyota engines are not quite as powerful as Honda ones.

I think the HvT dragdays and most dyno days proved that already?

Conclusion guys: As for the sake of the topic, no, 20v's aren't that bad. Yes they have a colourful history, yes some are powerful some are not, overall, its been a successful engine non the less. Celebrated over its time.

But for what its worth, there are better engines on par with the 20vs for much cheaper and more option for 'tunability'. Being said that, honda b16b's are much > than 20v's, stock for stock.

you own one, its cool. you don't own one, you're not missing much :)

i keep an eye on all the forums, NZH included, they actually are nowhere near as bad. i think its the 4age guys who have trouble dealing with it, but it usually seems to be the newer/younger owners of a 4age powered vehicle that go raving on about it.

they actually have a very strange sense of humour on there too.

Its funny how the formula atlantic and 240hp figure always pops up yet you never see any in actual road going cars. I know you could build a b16a to that level but why when you can do it cheaper or easier with larger displacment..?

Either way I think the argument is pretty much done to death

Basicly for non variable lift cars 20v's are ahead of the competition. For all motors <1600 it's not as good as variable lift type motors. Imagine if toyota had variable lift with 20 v how that would have been.
And after a few years yamaha brings out the dohc sinel 5 vale motor in my bike and punches out around 60hp, for less than 600cc - in fact 426cc to be exact - now that kind of power (actual) per litre in the 20v would have been a much better motor. Similar power delivery would have been good 2 :)

Hi all; yep that's my thread on NZHondas. :)

Yes the AW11 is about 100kgs heavier than my street CR-X - but I'd bet the CR-X is still much quicker from low RPM even with an extra 100kg (eg a passenger) in it.

TBH, all the AGEs I've driven seem less torquey in the low down than equivalent Hondas. I believe the torque difference is because the Honda is a longer stroke design. Floor the loud button on the MR2 at anything under 4500rpm and it takes what feels like an age before there's any grunt; I've no idea how people drive these used power to keep the tail out.

No disrespect as 1) I'm now one of you :) , and 2) no matter who's best they're certainly both the top engines of their class/era/etc and I'm very happy to drive either.

And bare in mind my MR2 engine is apparently quite freshly overhauled so might still be a bit tight, and probably needs tuned properly etc - so hopefully some horses to be found yet.

But this thread is about the 20v, which I know nothing about (in fact I don't think I've even been in one), so I'll just shut up now...
