I was 15 when I was given my first car (family car hand me down but a V8 VP Commodore nonetheless). Had to drive it with my mum in the passenger's seat for 6 months (learner) before I was allowed to drive it on my own. It got written off by a drunk driver while parked. I treated that car with a huge amount of respect, even more respect than I've treated some of the cars I've bought with my own money
To me it felt that I had "earned" the vehicle by demonstrating to my parents that I was responsible enough to be trusted with something like that and IMO I think I made my parent's proud by treating it well, cleaning it weekly, getting a job to pay for WOF/Reg/Maintenance etc. I may not have paid for it with my own money but I certainly wasn't a spoilt kid that was given things he didn't appreciate. In contrast my sister is not particularly responsible and as such hasn't been given/bought any cars. My mum was thinking of handing down her RunX but knew it would be a waste.
If this dude want's to buy his son a pricy car then let him do so, I'm sure he knows his son well enough to know that it won't be a wasted investment. He knows his son better than anyone else. If this is just a troll - you must be real bored...
