Changed rear brakes on my dad's hiace. OMG, I forgotten how stupid the whole drum brake setup is.
Springs galore!

Why they keep using? More parts, less performance and pain in the ass to deal with.

Good thing that all other cars in family have disks at the back.

Started stripping my 4AGZE today, what a mess. Supposedly only 150k on it, but maybe 4 oil changes in that time. Gonna be interesting to see the state of the oil control rings!

I'd be interested to see what they look like. I want to see what the ones in my old 3SGE look like but I don't have the correct socket to remove the head bolts. It was using silly amounts of oil in the end. Like 1 litre per 300kms.

Today, I washed it.

Caldina got rear-ended the other day.. by a beneficiary in an old Rav who gave my partner dodgy details. Until this it barely had a scratch on it! :x

Eurgh, same sort of thing with ours.. dodgy cell number and questionable insurance, but had his name and rego. Found him on FB as well fortunately, very hard to hide from an insurance company!

I hope you have an independent witness or photos of the incident. Otherwise even if they do eventually find him he can claim it wasn't his fault.

Got ours back yesterday.. one of the most highly rated places in Christchurch (gold-standard repairer!), absolutely terrible job. Bumper didn't fit right, they pulled the rear panel off the floorpan flange, leaving a 6-8mm gap unsealed for fumes to enter the cabin. Tore the floor pan pulling on a kink (WOF fail), scratched/gouged the paint pulling/pushing the rear panel out and didn't re-protect the bare metal or cavity wax it. Took it back today, really not confident that they'll fix it all properly.. might end up whinging to the insurance company again and take it elsewhere. Even more f**ked off now that the crash wasn't even our fault, yet our really tidy wagon is now ruined.

That sucks. Mine is booked in with BodyTech down Mowbray Street, my mechanic said all the car that he has seen after repairs there have been done well. Mines getting a new front door and panel and paint on the rear door.

Yeah. Really not sure what went wrong, the last car I took there was perfect, better than before the crash and they did a superb job of my parents car as well. This looks like an apprentice had a go at it! The manager even said that it shouldn't have been given back like that. You can see where they pulled the panel.. that gap under the sealant goes straight into the cabin, not ideal!

I'd rather not name names until I see how they go after a second nudge at it..

Screw that.
Go back to the insurance company with pics and say you want it done properly by someone else and you want the last repairer to have their accreditation revoked. That is a bullshit repair that 99% of the general public would never notice. Get them to cover your excess while you are at it for the inconvenience.

Gold standard repairer is a joke.
Gold standard accreditation has nothing to do with the quality of their work.
It is based on the building appearance, number ofcustomer parking spaces and loan car availability.
Quality has nothing to do with the standard.

What a complete joke.

It seem that there are so few good panelbeaters/painters out there these days. They seem to be nearly all after the quick buck doing insurance jobs for people that will never know what to look for in a quality repair. Missing screws and clips and things hanging off etc seems to be the norm :(

Yeah. They said they'd call me today, haven't heard anything so it'll be next Tuesday at the least now. Unless they've redone the shoddy stuff and it's perfect, I'm absolutely going to whinge to the insurance company.

Picked up another 4AGZE the other day, big port one this time. Given I have a bigport inlet manifold sitting in my pile of bits, am tempted to build a turbo motor now...

Good thank you, mate.

I finally have a LVV cert, after many years of trying to hold off on getting it until my long term build was finally "finished"

Unfortunately the guy who did the cert for me wasnt willing to put on my tag that I have height adjustable suspension (which I do), so when i eventually move to a non oem adjustable coil-over, I will have to get it rechecked, but he said he would be happy to do it without charging me a full re-cert fee, so i had to be happy with that.

Hows your car coming along? I spoke to Steve a couple of months back and have been meaning to go out and see him, but havent found the time. Im thinking about getting him to fabricate a new down-pipe over winter so Im sure Ill see your cars progress then :)
