Papakura has a VR-4 mufti car, kind of easy to spot though, its missing one of the inner reflecter panels in the rear lights.

Cops have done that for years, there used to be a car in aux with RACEME plates that was a mufti. I've actually seen those plates on a yellow Curren/Celica here :?

"oh no, we're not tryin to hide or collect revenue, as we all know a ticket in the mail a month after you've been speeding really makes you slow down"

I really find it hard to see this as road safty, where as if i saw a police officer every 10km's along the main highway it would definatly slow me down. Surly to be effective in prevention is to see them before you speed into the distance to kill yourself.

Another note: surly enticing some one to race you, ie: hotted up boyracer style car giving you a rev up at the lights only to catch you as you unecersarly excessivly accelerate) bordorlines on entrapement.

i was waiting for that arguement, but essentially, if you are stupid enough to take the bait, then it is a successful fishing trip for them

Unfortunately, NZ has no laws on entrapment, so they can, and do, get away with it.

On a side note, the ltsa no longer runs mystery shopper's for us avi's, (authorised vehicle inspector), where they turn up for a wof with a car with known faults. Much like target. They now run a system where a reviewer can show up unannoced to ispect a vehicle that has been recently issued a wof. They did that as the previous system was concidered entrapement. From the mouth of our reviewer. Maybe the are covering their arses before they have to.

I dont think so, they cant give you demerit points, or prove it was you driving, so how could they take your licence off you? (yes i may be wrong, it's just what i was told when a speed camera caught me)

The police will take you to court over a camera fine if you are going fast enough to lose your licence. Otherwise demerits do not apply.

The worst Ive seen was an old shitter van with a trailer on the back. It was jacked up and sitting on bricks to make it look as if its broken down and left. That was equipped with a camera :?

actually the speed camera operators are civilians - they arent sworn officers, they are 'contractors' who sit in a van

The same as the 'Highway Patrol' utes that assist the Police cars on the Motorways in Auckland. "Motorway Support Officer" is their title.

Theyre not sworn cops but they are salaried, paid employees of the NZ Police with certain powers delegated. In effect it means it doesn't matter that theyre not sworn cops, they can do what is necessary to do their jobs (when you consider that outside of speed enforcement most of what an MSO actually does is assist with traffic control and breakdowns) - sworn cops are never too far away.
