It's politics, they'll say anything to get into power, or to discredit those who are

National were also talking about increased spending while cutting tax, doesn't take a 10 year old to figure out that can't work. Which is why they weren't voted in.

or we could all move to the us where petrol is about 85c NZD a litre, but the second you break your leg its gonna cost you 8g USD...

Its all relative, we live in one of the most refined systematic countries in the world, who cares if you get 11.7 litres instead of 12.6.

As for national, well $&#$% how on earth were there forty whatever percent of our nation retarded at the time of the election.

Makes me scared 8O

Well actually...with the huge surplus the government had at the end of the year...you could cut tax back a little bit, which reduces the surplus a bit, increase spending a bit, which reduces the surplus a bit more, then still have a bit of surplus at the end while having both reduced tax and increased spending.

Not to mention culling the multiple layers of bureaucracy that Labour has put into place in government departments, so that the money that does get spent actually gets spent on helping people instead of lawyers, political lunches, select committees etc etc. (I'm just rereading Tom Clancys' Executive Orders at the moment, what an ideal world it would be if the political system ran as Jack Ryan wished :) )
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

My angle on this is that the price of petrol has a ripple effect throughout the whole economy.
Nearly every good/service you buy/use has petrol factored into the cost.

You can argue the pros and cons of petrol use being good/bad for the environment and future generations etc till you're blue in the face, but the simple logic is that WE are the ones footing the bill. Right now.

eg

Mr low income bracket can no longer afford to drive to work. So he starts selling drugs on the side (or supplementing his income some other way)

Mr average income bracket suddenly has no money to take his partner out to dinner once a week. 3 months later the restaurant down the road closes due to lack of patrons.

Mr teenager in first car can no longer afford insurance, then crashes into an expensive euro. Govt spends thousands of dollars tracking him down as he evades his court appearance and does a runner

etc etc etc.

No matter which way I look at it, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Yes I have written into Mr Cullen already stating the above.

the whole of NZ should only buy gas from one station chain and force the rest to lower prices to compete instead of just paying what ever they say we should

It's actually more like $1.25 NZD a litre now and going up. When it goes up in the US its like 15-20c increase per gallon.

Plus in the US they have massive gas-guzzling cars, $&#$% expensive insurance, and massive distances to be travelled.

If you look at that way they don't have it that good when it comes to petrol prices...

Amen to that. It's amazing what Auntie Helen's propaganda has done to people over the last few years. So many of us aren't thinking straight any more.

(goes to calculator...)

I just worked out, it cost 83 cents a litre, and when i got there it cost 80c

Good figures mate, goooooooooooooood figures

(dont worry bout me, i just got my 4agte on the road and im so happy, im actually being scarcastic i think they call it)

You're not wrong there, I can't figure out how 40% of voters thought Auntie Helen was thet best choice. Or more to the point how 100% of voters don't realise that Govenments always win and election

You're well out of date then, the current average price in the Republik of Kalifornia is $US3.20, or at current exchange rates is $NZ1.3177/ litre, US average price is $1.21/litre and the cheapest is $1.12/litre.

How do you figure that out? Best you get a new abacus :P

Even taking the peak Feburary exchange rate it's 93cents/litre.
