If the retards racing up kent and cambridge etc stuck to the old "there is a time and place for street racing/driving fast" unspoken law of previous generations, such as our parents, then they wouldnt have to do this.

I think its fair enough. Im a little pissed, as my car is likely to be well over the limit, but i know i aint gonna be racing standard gsr's with shiiitty bov's on a friday nite.

They've generally been picked on as exhaust leaks. Though at 4000rpm most cars will be producing a little boost anyway, which ought to pick off screamer pipes.

I respect your other opinion, but for this, remember v8's not revving as high as inline 4's? its just to be approx half redline, but to have a solid number is more appropriate, imagine the cop trying to find rev limit on your car if its got no "red" line

i totally understand where they managed to get the logic to set it as it is (95) but have seen enough to realise that it isnt suitable. personally i think the limit is totally ridiculous,
after having sound tests done i know that the closing of car doors can reach 120db. so many stock exhaust exceed 95 as well, i also dont want to get started on big hogs and choppers

it seems to be that the newer, mid to high performance cars coming out now are equipped with loud exhausts. why should they be exempt?

also, why should a 1300cc 4 cylinder be allowed to make as much noise as a 5.7l v8?

i think its good that they have a limit, unfortunately most stock cars will be over this limit.

If i fail ill get another muffler installed, simple as that.

Hopefully this will sort out the stupid $&#$% with loud as rotaries and raspy hondas

Everyone is talking about all these factory cars etc that will fail the new test but I can't think of any (off the top of my head) that would exceed 95db - come to that I can't think of any that would be considered too loud for circuit racing, which has the same limit.

Here are a few common sounds for comparison purposes (taken from http://www.sfu.ca/sonic-studio/handbook/Decibel.html)

Remember also that decibels is based on a logarithmic scale, so for every 10 decibel increase you're increasing the volume of the sound by 10 times. 20 decibels, 100 times (source: http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=690085). Also, higher frequency noises (eg: a 4 cylinder vs a V8) are more damaging (source: http://www.gcaudio.com/resources/howtos/loudness.html)

IMO, if you can't make your car quieter than 95db then you are just being antisocial.

I'm all for this limit. I get sick to death of all the little hoodlums at 10pm - 2am screaming around with their open exhausts.
I think a fair amount of thought has gone into these limits. This current setup is a lot better that it could have been.
Different rpm levels for different number of cylinders is great. Can you imagine if it wasn't there? The V8 boys would be screaming blue murder that they have the same limit as four bangers.

So if my car is a MR (extra 4db allowance), and a race car (extra 2 db allowance), do I get to add both of these to 95db? 101db here I come!! :twisted:

Be interesting to see what level of motorsport vehicle they apply that to, for example our Mazda Demio has been used in Motorsport NZ events and my partner and I are both club members. Has a log book but it is only in Clubsport basic events.

Procedure is 500mm from the tip, at a 45 degree angle at the height of the tip. Environment I would assume will be a control environment set up in each of the testing stations (it would have to be wouldn't it).

Interesting test would be to take a car to 2 separate stations, see if the result is consistent.

I'm happy with it too.
500mm is bloody close!
One of the things I don't like tho is that removable silencers aren't allowed.
I run one in mine because I'm trying to be considerate when driving on the street, and remove it at the track.

Yeah, but most people with them aren't considerate. Silencer in for WoF's only then pull it out as soon as they get home. Unfortunately that screws it for everyone else.

Yeah I know, I guess they think they are just too removable (which they are).
If you have one, and you get pulled over without it, then you should get in trouble, not ban them all.
It could be written on the little aluminium stickers that are going to be applied to everyone's exhausts that are in question
