Alot depends on the insurance company. What Ive found recently, when pricing parts for vehicles which are insured for 15-20K. If there is more than $3K worth of parts required without taking labour into account they'll write it off, silly I know, but thats the way it seems to be at the moment.

Just be carfull here if they can prove it was in the car at the time of the accident ( this and any thing else of value ) they can keep it i belive to help recoup there costs ( thats how they work after all , this is assuming you had it on your policy for the theft cover?

if not your gravey but if you told them you had a nice HU and they notice its gone they would have grounds to get a tad angry.

Yeah, the headunit was less than $1500 (just) so they didnt need to know what it was (their words) and it would be only just more than my excess of $1000 to replace

My Skylines damage went up to 13G, and its value is 15G, was going to be a write off but the panel beater managed to scrape around and find cheaper parts to bring the bill down so I could keep it
