lol

I wqas working on a car at a car yard ages ago, and a guy was looking at an 1800GSR lancer.

the salesman told him he would not get insurance for it, and the young guy said,
Nah, already looked intom it and they will.
Salesman asked how much and he said $4500 per year with $2k Excess.

The Lancer was valued at $8990.

So what's that, they predict he will write it off in just over a year? lol

I have both my cars insured with NAC (i deal with a broker tho). 18, with a small history and i pay $1k for my modded GT4, all mods listed etc which is a pretty good deal for my age. Same company charges me $29 less a year for my 1997 Primera! Its an SR18DE auto powered nana car!

So apparantly my nana car is just as much risk as my modified 4WD turbo.

Was with ami when i had my gts4, missus wrote it off on monday had payout in the bank by friday. Wasn't her fault so i rate ami pretty highly.
About 6 weeks after that the missus rolled our surf and float which was covered by state, after much $&#$% around we finally got a letter saying that they would offer us 3 grand for the surf and 1500 for the float. Now the surf had an agreed value of 7k on it so i told them this and said that no the float is insured for replacement value or 4 grand which one would they like me to pick?? Waited a few more months for the next letter from them thinking that it would come with a cheque but no, they said yes your surf is insured for 7k agreed how's 5k sound to you and still 1500 for float. Rung them again and threatened them with fair go and all of a sudden got a letter the next week saying here's 7k and get two quotes from float builders in writing to replace float and we will pay you the average price, which was in writing. Got the two quotes and they came back with an average of 5.2k so then state had to pay out for that  laughed pretty hard when that came back.

Am now with tower, have my 91 rolla insured 3rd part fire theft and glass for $26 per year and my 95 bluebird full insurance is $55 - i also have some other stuff with them such as farm, house contents etc so that may help. Sometimes it is good to be old ay

Parents have had bad experiences with state regarding payouts. Took ages and then they savagely undervalued the vehicle (insured for market value $6000, they gave us $3000).
Most experiences with AMI have been good. I did get stuffed around once. Had 3rd party F&T with them, policy was up for renewal, so I called them and asked if the policy could be put on hold for a month till the car was back on the road, then I would renew it. Person told me that was ok. So I said I'll do that. (Car was getting a half cage...)
A month later the car was back on the road and I went to re-activate my policy. They told me it had been cancelled as I hadn't paid for the renewal. Apparently there is no such thing as a temporary hold on policies. And now that it had a half cage it would not be insured... and yet the manager said if I had renewed the policy, they would still insure me, even with the roll cage... ARGH!!

I'm with insure direct now... $360 a year for 3rd party F&T... No credit card facilities and annoying month direct debits...
I'm planning to change to TIS. They quoted me $860 for full cover on $5k car + $3k mods. They have an office in Newmarket, and they have credit card facilities...

iv been with AMI for years.
had no issues, found it amusing that they charged more for my ae101 than my modified aw11 s/c though.

through work i deal with quite a lot of insurance jobs, and i can tell you state are one company i would never ever deal with.

Or if you can afford to pay for the $60K vehicle you hit & write off.

Personally I have never had issues with insurance companies, granted I have only used two, AMI for the Corona & An Insurance broker for the KE25, a lot of the time I think it comes down to what you ask, how you ask it & reading the fine print, but thats just my take on it

Or even more to the point, can afford to pay for the $1,000,000 of cargo the truck you ran off the road was carrying...

NAC pretty much will charge the same sort of money, no matter the vehicle. So if you've got one nasty boyracer/granny killer type car, and another more normal car, have them insured with different companies, it'll save you alot.
When I had the SW, NAC were charging me $820 p/a for that, and were going to charge me $500ish for the wagon?? Slight disparity. State charged me just over $300 for the wagon in the end.

Back in April when i crashed my 85 i spun and hit the curb, breaking the rear drive shaft, the car landed on the wheel that had fallen off the the only damage was to the axle.

So my dad doesnt know that it will be much, much cheaper to repair it at home ($50 on TM for a drum to drum diff) that paying my $1500 excess (16 yo) and he calls up the insurance company and before i know it, my cars on the back of a truck. I called up IAG to ask if i could pay for my car to be towed away from the yard back to my house where i could fix it, i would even pay them back for towing it in the first place. I got a big flat no. "once a claim has been initiated you are obligated to see it through".

I ended up paying the whole $1500 excess and IAG payed another $1500 to a rip off place for a job i could have done for $50 and some time at home. The beaurocratic BS cost both parties.

I had a car with lumley and wrote it off in 1999. They paid out ok and reasonably quickly, and wouldn't insure me again.

From what I've heard the insurance companies have a list of cars and their valuations, if your car is not on the list, they have a formula to use, how many doors, size of engine etc.
You can always lay a complaint http://www.iombudsman.org.nz/ if you have a problem

Im with State, will be changing to NAC asap. Have a Non-turbo "car" worth about 2K fully modded out worth over 4k worth of stuff. im 20 and state will not insure me for this because the stuff in the car is worth more then the car itself. So presently i have 3rd party insurance and no contents. Needless to say, i take my other car out most of the time, and i had a big arguement with state over this matter

The other thing that annoys me with insurance companies is how location can affect your premiums more than any other factor. For example:

* My Sentra has an alarm and is parked off the street in one of the quieter parts of Auckland. No modifications, very high km, only insured for over-25s and with a 60% no claims discount the best I could do for insurance was around $500p/a. My sister then purchased a mid 90's Libero wagon, bright yellow, lowered on 17s with big exhaust etc etc, typical wanky boy/girl racer vehicle. Insured for her and her partner (then 20 and 21 respectively) full insurance was around $420p/a. Why? They lived on a farm in Pirongia...

* My Aunt recently moved house and rang the insurance company to give the new address. They said okay and that they would send an invoice for the $150 more it was going to cost at the new location. Yet the two addresses were only about 1km apart and when my Aunt told them the postcode was the same then they said okay, no change to the premium :?
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

a guy i no had his RX7 insured by NZI and he sent off the cheque each month and the day before it was dude he sent the cheque away. The next day a wheel fell off his car and he crashed it (kids dont go to fag and turbo). When he rung up they said he hasnt got insurance because they havent recieved the cheque. then the next day he got his own cheque back in the mail.

So they sent him is cheque back and said they hadnt recieved it after he had called to make a claim
