Why would anyone want to steal a praying lantis?
Then again I guess it makes more sense that buying one :lol:

I dunno, one of my mates has one as a daily driver/track hack and it goes ok. At a recent event:

Every time faster than his are race cars... going by that I'd have to say they'd be one of the best performing sub 2litre 4door NA cars you can get ;)

Hmmm that's interesting because the one I've been (V6 engine not sure on size) in makes my Mums Suzuki Liana feel like a super car.

The whole NA Impreza thing it wouldnt surprise me that the half people stealing them didnt know the difference between them and the STIs which would be why they are so far up the list. But wtf for the Lantis :lol:

Don't really want to get into a flame-war but the Silvia was the original name, 200SX didn't come along until the 70s according to that article, but even so the S10 was badged as a Silvia 180SX, technically not a 200SX.

If you say so, no need for a "flame war", just read the article. The name 200SX kicked off with the '75 S10, so how is that "technically not a 200sx"? Either way, your first comment is wrong.. 200sx covers far more than "one generation".. be it Nissan or Datsun.. it covered ALL generations aside from the very first Silvia.

Also.. the NZ new S13/S14/S15s are badged as 200sx. So maybe that list refers to NZ new and imports?

Lantis's only have 2 engine options, 1.8 4 cyl and 2.0 V6


the 'Type R' had the same power as the non type R V6's

Doesnt matter what type of lantis - they are very fast to steal.
Person i know had hers taken from Botany town centre and it was caught on video. . .
>Another lantis pulls up and thief jumps out.
>after 14 seconds he is in the car.
>after 23 seconds hers follows the other one out.

fortunately both cars recovered without much damage

3rd lantis stolen that night from there = involved in a bank robbery and is wrapped around a tree fleeing police. Occupant killed. Money never recovered :?

the discerning reader may need to take into account:
- underwriting criteria which may limit the insurers liability on 'high risk' vehicles aka like already said so far AA may not insure evo's, gtx's, rx7s etc
- price sensitivity. Another tool insurance companies use is to price undesirables out of contention possibly the lack of real cars in the list
- target audience. I doubt AA would be the only insurer 'young people' with their high risk vehicles would flock to... actually I would say their share of their young market is limited (young people tend to park their cars in higher risk areas hence why we pay more to insure)
- theft to book ratio. I always wonder whether these are just pure numbers or whether they work it out against their book size per make+model. eg is the silvia number one because 200 were stolen or because the ones stolen vs the ones insured are 50%?

definitely not the gospel truth market wise, especially from the analysis i did today at the insurance company i work at.

Pages got it right....the flatty works for AA, and he put it this way when I asked where the evos were etc: *we shall call him bob*

it's based on vehicles from OUR claims history.. and we dont insure evo's lol

also.. say we have 10 silvias on our files, and 3 get stolen.. thats 30% loss rate..
if we have 500 subies.. and 50 get stolen.. thats only a 10% loss rate..

as far as were concerned a 200sx covers a nz new S13, S14 or S15

As far a japanese people are concerned Silvia covers all those models including from 1960s. a 180sx is a silvia S13 fastback.

so i think the article is refering to 180sx's or S13 fastbacks

and silvias refer to usual S13 S14 and S15s lol

Im surprised ford and holden wern't up there!

AA would insure my Celica (19yo male, restricted licence, garaged car)...but they wanted something like $2200/year for full insurance 0_o

EP82 GT-went mega hard for completely stock, 15.09 quarter, gone now :(

Funny, Neither Supra or Trueno/Levin are on the top 10 of that list yet my insurance company thinks its ok to hike the prices by $150 each car this year!

Still caused no accidents (ive had to claim on) and still have a clean driving record...... go figure!
