Yea, my dad has a microlite. Zenith Air STOL 701, its got a Rotax boxer in it. The format works really well because its flat, meaning a flattish engine cowel, and when you take the coweling off, its actually easy to access the spark plugs etc.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Rotax probably make the most common cheap plane engines, they are boxer config. Many many people think they are rotaries for some reason.

Only find car engines in microlights but its pretty stupid, they have too many electrics and fuel injected and are made of cast iron! Plus no dry sump so pretty likely to get lubrication issues.

I dont think you will find many if any with subaru engines or VW engines, would be way too heavy.

Alot of those 3/4 scale Mustang/spitfire etc WW2 planes flying around have 2.5 and 2.7 Suzuki Grand Vitara V6's in them. We've supplied a few of them

There's a 3/4 scale Hawker Hurricane here that has a Mitsubishi V3000 V6 in it. Goes awesome. And a Gyro copter with a Subaru Legacy engine.

Thats a pretty small engine even for a 3/4 size one, when you consider the original had a 27 litre V12!
