maybe you need to look at getting a daily car and something less comfortable for fun?

i wouldnt call a 205 crazy in the same way a type r, they are quite refined, comfortable etc. id class them as an open road GT rather than a sports car.

im thinking you need to go take a couple of examples of each for a long drive and see which one lights your fire

Having owned an ST205 and a (non-turbo) JZX100 I would go with the Chaser every time.
But then I had some major issues with the GT4 which turned into a money pit and is a lot harder to work on... and personally I think they are a little over rated.

If you liked your old Legacy have you considered an STI impreza or Mitsubishi Evo equivalent?

$10k won't get you a good evo/sti sadly. If you can stretch slightly you could get an STI Type R. It's 4wd like the GT4 (with adjustable centre diff), it's a coupe like the GT4 but it's a 12sec capable car in stock trim......pity it sounds like a subaru (although that can be changed too)

They are very nice cars, but rare and very expensive.
Later subarus don't sound like older ones. They sound a lot nicer. But then again it is subaru and expensive.
Don't get evos. Every monkey has it, and they are nasty to drive in my opinion.

What do you mean they're rare and expensive? There are plenty for sale atm and they start for a little over $10k.....

22b's are rare and expensive......Type-R's arent...

I'd go for the Chaser too, mainly because I'm sick of only having two $&#$% doors

I use my St205 group A daily , trafiic , weekends , long trips , you name it - even goes shopping ..

Got no major complaints with the old girl besides shes starting to show her age in the engine department ( at 230 thousand , so would you , and it needs a respray in time but still - it polishes up a treat , and those ho have seen it would agree that it looks pretty good for a 15 year old car :)

Its had a few niggles and had to have the suspension replaced when i bought it but compared to my last gt4 - its been very easy to just tick along with ..

it'll be retired from daily duties when the engine gets rebuilt , but till then ill keep plodding on in comfort :)

You would be surprised, if you look hard enough you can find a good STI for well under $10k these days.
Type R's still seem to command mid teens in monetary value unfortunately, the only diff is 2 less doors, still the same length car but has a centre diff controller which is available in the 4 door version anyway, IMO 4 doors makes the car more versatile but If you are set on a 2 door then I'd still look at a GT4 for better value

well i DID love my legacy... untill it went bang.... twice... so yeah bit of a bad time with subies. i know that the gt4 wont stack up in straight line speed with an sti/evo and wont corner as well as my type R but i like the 4wd, the coupe and the potential of the 3sgte.... the st205's are capable of 400hp with factory internals so ive heard? maybe im worng there?

he should be, A type r goes around corners quite well out of the box, 4WD's are understeering boats

The 4WD part would probably be good down your way with the occasional snowfalls

dont need luck, just a decent driver! type Rs arnt the be all and end all of cornering and 205s are very good in the flowing twisty bits, and having some boost and 4wd they get out of corners very very well.
i know which one id rather do a long drive on nz roads like the lewis pass in

Type R's corner like shit. Proven this weekend. A Type R understeered right into the side of my RX7.
