hahaha rant rant rant! well heres my bit. Im 24 and have been with ACC for my back injury for the last 10 years! I have two compacted vertebrae, 3 discs with deminished fluid and muscle atrophy on the left of my back.

I have had 3 surgical plans go forward but then get denied from ACC. I have been through three back rehabilitation courses and the last one was cut from 12weeks to 6weeks through ACC cutbacks. Sugury will be $60,000 to replace a disc and remove a vertebrae in which will see me pain free for the next 15years minimum!!!

... but they wont go through with it!

ACC sucks and every man and his dog has some sort of issue and some with bigger issues then others. These are the cards we have been delt and despite all of us voicing our opinions and views ... what is there that we can do?

it all went down hill from, aunt jenny and uncle helen,
if john cant make a difference its uprising time,

to be honest(unsure) i thinks its more the ministers fcuking up rather then the primes, and over paid crooners running these state owned adventures,
tvnz, electricity company's, acc, income support, all have had really bad fcuk ups in the last few years, yet heads didn't get chop,

But seriously.... I think the problem is mainly the people on ACC just are just too f**king lazy to get a job. I'd love to see figures on how many people are on benefits and have been for YEARS that could easily get a job.

The whole situation pisses me off. I have worked full time since leaving school, but had some "issues" a couple years back so couldn't work for 6 months. Only option I had was sickness benefit which in my situation was $138ish a week. How is one supposed to pay a mortgage and live off that 8O . The day I could work I was back out there working, which is why I have NO time for anyone not willing to pull their weight.... pretty sure i've gone off topic now....

down with ACC *grabs pitch fork*

i can better your allegation, Luke.
self-employed, averaging $1600/week, new-born, mortgage, commercial lease etc, they found a loophole in my policy to put me on Sickness Benefit at $108/week!! with impending bankruptcy looming, i was back working with 2 dislocated AC joints 4-6 weeks later!

it took a bloody good car crash in July for me to find out how much information has been with held regarding the many dealings i have had with ACC.

i currently have it on specailist advice not to continue doing manual work as most of my upper body including hands are rooted, but do you think they'll pay for any retraining in their current financial situation??? i doubt it, just keep working until incapable then throw me on a scrap-heap.
I've been a bad bad boy. I should read the rules and behave before I get spanked by an admin

have any of you actually priced up private health insurance or income protection insurance? its not that much considering whats at stake if you own a house etc.
you all seem aware that the system doesn't work in many instances, I would have thought if you were in a position where you can't afford to lose an income then it would be common sense.
Its come in useful a few times for me. although it does irritate me somewhat that you can't rely on the state provided system to look after you, you should be able to choose to forgo all acc levies in lieu of private insurance.

And that sums up the main problem really doesn't it, there isn't a choice of acc or not, you can choose to pay more and get insurance which os a good idea but at the end of the day you are still paying acc as well, even tho you'l probably never go to acc if you have all the other insurances you can get.
I still think the best idea is to scrap it and make veryone buy there own health insurance - before everyone jumps on me and tells me how good a system it is just do a little bit of research into what you currently pay for acc yearly in petrol, road user, rego, the bit on your wages the list is massive then figure out how much you would have to spend on insurance if that money wasn't disapearing into acc, personally i could pay my life insuance and get a fairly good health and disability with loss of earnings package for the amout i would normally pay to acc. As it is i only have life because if i end up stuffed unable to work the missus won't be able to look after our property on her own so it would be back to town for us[/b]

Ambulance $80 unless you get a chopper and if you live or die someone still has to pay for ambo but not chopper, at the moment a&e doesn't cost anything, ever wonder why there are so many people of the lower socio economic group waiting at a&e to see a doctor cos they have the flu??

Yes it doesn't cost anything to the end user, but that does not make it free, someone has to pay. And FWIW that $80 does not cover the full cost of the ambulance service, ACC pay them something like $500 per call out.

You kinda missed my point there but meh, if everyone had private insurance rather than relying on acc a&e wouldn't be free to the user as it is now but your insurance would cover it as it would be part of the entire bill. At the moment a&e's doc's, nurses, and all the other specialist staff are paid by there respective district health boards who are goverment funded from our taxes so sort of pre-paid if you like. Wasn't aware that acc paid the ambo service anything, what does fwiw mean anyways
