+1

Got a cordless one and its the only way to go

what happens if it goes flat at the track?

Never flattened one battery totally in a day. But if I forget to charge it the night before I just do what holdenfan said and slap in the 2nd battery and keep going

a brand new dewalt gun on its own is around the $220 mark,

batteries are extra, nicad are $105 ea, and lithium $180ea, chargers range from $75-140
im not sure what the kits are worth

I already had a 18v drill and 3 batteries and decided to try a battery gun,
I got a 'reconditioned' one from loven tools for $100,
I thought if I got 6 months id be happy, the sucker is still going 4 years later, and it gets a lot of abuse

Yeah those DeWalt 18v ones are freakin sweet, we got one in the FSAE team in 2006 and it's still going strong now. Doesn't quite have the balls of a good air driven one, but they're so much more convenient and I can only remember a couple of occasions where something has been so tight the DeWalt couldn't get it off

WOuld definitely be handy to have one for those jobs when your without a compressor or air. i.e rally or similar. Would be keen if they aren't too expensive

I would get a decent Li-ion battery powered one (with 2 batteries + charger).

They're expensive though, mainly because of the batteries + charger. Batteries are ~$120 each, charger ~$150. The actual impact wrench skin would be ~$200

The good thing though if you go for a good brand like Milwaukee or Makita, you can buy more cordless skins and add to your collection (drill, angle gridner, saws etc.

I got the dewalt dw059 after reading the test above. Paid 300 for a new gun with reconditioned battery (old case with new nicad cells) from the tard. I just use my rc battery charger to charge it ($60 Turnigy) which gives me a nice read out of the voltage and mah I'm putting in to it each time.

I mainly use it for wheel nuts, but sometimes for any bolt I can get it onto - awesome for spring compressors :D I only regret not buying it sooner

I've used one like this one a building site for bolting down bottom plates and bracing brackets. So much faster than by hand. Very good for that and I would love one for my car.

this is the one i am using

http://www.tradequip.com.au/index.php?r ... uct_id=455

got it from BNT a couple of years ago for $350 and still going strong. Mostly used for changing tyres at race track but have done the odd spring compressor, removing crank pulley bolt and flywheel bolts over that time too.

I just dont rely on it to torque up as it uses more battery and never gets exact anyway.

That's pretty much exactly like mine.

Paid bugger all for the kit (2 batteries, charger 24v) and it's lasted in the workshop for 18ish months now. I use it everyday for wheelnuts and any other bolt (GREAT for undoing underbody shields with 20 10mm bolts!!) and the other boys often use it. Fantastic for out of shop work etc as well.
