Yeah it's a hard call, both can go well, but are different in delivery IMO. Personally i'd go Beams, torque is good 8)

Why would you pick a 4a over a beams?

Would you pick a 3k over a 4a?

I wouldn't compare your experience with older 3sge's or even 3sgtes, and assume a beams is the same.

Put a beams in, spend $3k on it, $2k of which is a link, easy 200hp at the wheels.

How much money would it take to get a 4age to 200whp?

BEAMS will require bigger diff, and stronger box and bigger brakes, which all add to the total. 4AGE conversion is much cheaper (gearbox aside)

oh, i'm not saying a 3s has less hp than a 4a.
But every 4a powered car i jump in, always bars me up a wee bit.

You could buy my supra, 1989 MA70, Looks awesome, Super strong drive-line, 3.0liter turbo goodness 200kilowatts, Its a regular track car as it is, Has suspension work and brakes already done

Needs a new exhaust manifold made to convert to external wastegate, fun project, eventually. has been running fine for years with internal wastegate perfect 8)

the man makes a good point though. something thats had some decent mods already could save you some money, since ya never get back what you spend on them etc.

And yes this man also gives a very good point, ive spent well over 20k in the 8years ive owned this car, you never get back what you put in

I certainly know for me personally, if i was to do it all over again i would buy a car with solid modifications done already and then just change a few things here and there to suit me and the driving i do in the car. For me its circuit racing and the supra does that brilliantly, it handles and brakes, its strong and reliable and drifts nicely if thats what you want, then drives home in comfort, if it wasnt for expensive weddings i would be keeping it

On the another note like Quint said, buy something that interests you, its got to be fun and motivating, angry and exhilarating, otherwise whats the point?

$1500 for this KP shell, comes with quite a few spares, if you're interested can get a detailed list of what it will come with. Pretty much brand new paint...

Spend less now on something from the 80's, spend more later in panel beating.....

Would think a 90's Nissan would cost more now, less rust later? (untested theory).

There is a bunch of S-chassis Nissans for under $5000, considering how much more car and potential you are getting than AE82/92 and KPs etc it's pretty sweet buying imho.


Agreed - I get that rwd Nissans tend to have retard tax on them.

Buy car that's turbo already... hopefully it has a better chance of working in the long term, compared to someone trying to convert to turbo (without experience/ large wallet).. and having to fork out $$ in rebuild costs/ less driving time.......

Prob bit out of my price range, but thanks.

I know it's better to buy something with mods someone else has already bought, but then it wouldn't be a project car, it would just be something someone else did for me :)

I like the idea that a lot of you guys do, finding stock (or near) parts from other model cars that are upgrades, that either work straight off, or require a little modification. Don't like the idea of rolling into a shop and paying someone a wad of cash to bolt something on that 1,000 other cars have!

what does a F20C engine and box cost these days? if you are going to buy a beams engine and box + spend $$ modding it would probably work out cheaper and faster (HP) doing a f20c conversion. Just a thought.

Good point, i'm just not sure if I can do it after dissing the H for so many years!
Ego aside, I may look into it. I was even thinking about an SR20 at one stage, just because of the sheer volume of after-market (cheating) options.

GA61, got a ge motor for it + manual conversion etc. and enough parts to +t it if you choose.
