I live in Auckland, and in my experience the closer I come to Auckland, the worse drivers get. Seriously it is like a disease. Driving in South Island is much nicer experience (apart from bloody camper vans, but I bet half of them are Aucklanders).
Even in wellington it is not that bad.

Just going up the Bombay hills in the right lane doing about 103-104kph, when suddenly an estima full of bros pulls out in front of you at 70kph... Auckland thing.

said it once and ill say it again. Drivers should have to sit a re-test every 5 years. no big deal, but if you are shit at driving then you will be forced to improve

Will not improve driving one bit.
Our licensing is designed to test you on rules. There is zero in car control and thats what the issue is. How to actually drive a $&#$% car

Not 100% on the OP topic, but I'd like to see:
- A driving competency test every time you renew your license (10 years).
- Mandatory driver training for anyone who has an accident resulting in serious injury.
- One strike you're out for drunk driving.
- Reoffending for, say, drunk driving, reckless driving causing harm, etc (the REAL stuff, not having your car lowered on Manchester St) within 5 years means permanent driving ban (maybe allow a "parole" in 5 years or something).
- Caught driving with no license, car crushed. If not yours, owner has the choice of claiming it stolen, and you get done for grand theft auto (not San Andreas).

People in the general public would bitch and moan about another $50 or so to pay for a driving test (once every 10 years, or 10 cents per week), but people need to start realizing driving is a privilege, and it's dangerous as f**k if you don't do it right.

The above might sound Draconian, but nothing else seems to work for those that insist on being dickheads on the road.

I think practical test should include wet car park, or at least a sprint on real open road. Even in Auckland you don't need to go far to find one: scenic drive in West, Kim Dotcom way on North, water reservoir way on South and East.

What i meant was a practical drivng test not a $&#$% push button computer test.

Also all driving tests should include open road

this sort of thing really ticks me off too. the number of people you see on those cop shows getting sent on their way with incorrect licence / illegal vehicles is shocking.

watch the aussie version and its tow trucks and keys taken away for unpaid registrations etc.

the guy is exactly right in that video

in many cases it can apply in Auckland traffic, but to a certain extent. At 5 o'clock theres more cars than actual road space, the motorway backs up because both the onramps & the offramps are backed up.

and yeah god damn coconut vans jumping into your lane and then doing 40% of the speed limit

Biggest problem on NZ roads is Aucklanders in their Miatas sipping mochafrappeccinos and admiring their latest hairstyle in the mirror instead of driving.
