Theres no dout in my mind it a nice car.But I wouldnt have one.Just another thing thow I really have to lough to my self when I see holden and ford owners driving along with there holden/ford racing team hats,jackets socks and probaly underpants to.and go every where with there lights on, on really nice days? whats up with that :roll:

Me i love holdens and have since i was a kid.

As for the lights is it not a thing that with some cars the lights are automatic and can't be turned off unless disconnected?
I just remember one of my mates holdens doing that.

Its a damn impressive car. I dont care what people say about reliability - the things just FEEL so solid driving them, sitting in them - hell, the doors even close with a "whumph" instead of the hollow clunk most jap cars do.

Plus the fact that from factory they will run the 1/4 in low 13's at close to 180kph.... Thats just plain cool, and really puts into perspective just how rapid these "heavy stone age cars" actually are.

its called 6 litre's of displacement ;)

Crappy jap cars go Just as quick with half the displacement, or less than half with a turbo :).

There aint no replacement for displacement, except for the turbo in my basement, haha.

All the tests I've read say high 13's/ low 14's and nowhere close to 180km/h, about the same performance as the Caldina. Though not bad for an overweight whale, just don't try and make them go around corners without upgrading the suspension, or to stop them from high speed without an upgraded brake package :evil:

Correct, was a Gen2..
And I find it somewhat 'interesting' that the Gen4 3SGTE is 'that' picky...

The gen4 3SGTE's strong preference for 98 octane is provable by anyone with even rudimentary knowledge about octane ratings and factory antidetonation systems.

My bad. The current top of the line one is pushing 13.3 isnt it though? For a RWD 4 door, off the yard car thats still a feat.

And yes, its 6 litres of displacement. That also means a few things... Torque, everywhere. None of this "rev the hell out of it to make it do anything" nonsense. I like the novelty of revving past 8 grand as much as anyone, but if it can go just as fast with half the revs then hey, hold me back. Who cares if its old technology - if it makes the power, I dont care how it does it.

I'm fully aware of a turbo'ed small capacity 4 or 6 being able to go faster - I raced my old mans SS in my last VR4, it was damn close, and that VR4 ran a 12.6. For the amount we'd each spent on doing up our cars i was gutted :lol:

lol fivebob of all the people on this forum I expected you to have an open mind :?

Out performs a standard gt-t tenfold and corners better and brakes better too, unless your not talking about an hsv commodore cause thats whole other story, I dont think mine has the upgraded brakes or suspension either.

No, seriously.. I love it when people talk about stuff they know nothing about. I've got the same model as Dave, and for the thrashing it gets it's held up bloody well. For those of you who dont know me, I bought my one new when I was about 19, and this Saturday, my VX2 Clubsport will turn three years old. Instead of a cake, it will be taking a beating around Manfeild Racetrack, as it has at every opportunity since I got it. Sure, i've had to spend a shitload of money on things like bushes, brake pads and (most certainly) tyres. The car takes an absolute beating - the rear tyres are replaced on average every two - three months, and i rarely take a corner with traction. But the car itself is as solid as anything, and to be honest everytime I see the carnage of broken imports post trackday, i crack a little smile. Sure, it will happen to me too, but for all these people that go on about how weak holdens/fords/australian cars are, and how strong the 3S-GTE, the B16A, the EJ-20, the 4G63, or even the RB-26 are, they often seem to have problems when it comes to pushing them at a race event. I've not seen a single late model (ie VT / AU onwards) Holden or Ford with anything serious at a trackday to date. Theres not a minimum of five cars on trailers at any big HSV or FPV trackday.

Oh, and my car is standard, bar an air filter, which is just in the factory airbox. For those of you going on about how 'slow' they are - it ran a 13.6 quarter without too much effort in standard form, and i didnt have to take half my interior out to do it. Infact, it ran 13.6 with full interior, seats, fire extinguisher, three spare rims in the boot, a trolley jack, my lunch, video camera, toolbox and my arse in it, among other things.

It also does a few things really well. It pulls away from the lights. It's never going to beat a decent two-litre four wheel drive turbo, lets be realistic, but it does it nicely. It cruises up north very comfortably, with five people and a load of shit in the car, and your mates can still comment on how the back seat is like a huge couch. Buggered if i'd every go long distance in anything smaller ever again.

It has mountains of power and torque on tap from standard. None of this 'rev it to eight grand and dump the clutch' like Ako said - if i launch mine from 1800 it will wheelspin, 1280 seems to be the optimum at the moment, with a little bit of slip.

Dyno is not a challenge - see the graph below, and that was early in it's life. With constant abuse, it's now loosened up to put out 250rwkw, as apose to the older graph below showing 242.6 - as they get older, they only get better.

It also slides around, drifts and does burnouts really nicely, and with minimal effort. See below:

The ford and holden rivalry is a laugh. In all honesty I buy into it a bit, but it doesnt bother me. At the end of the day, the two in the pic below sit outside our work each day, which provides a nice balance.

I guess what i'm saying is, i've owned japanese cars, i've owned Toyotas, and at the moment my toy car is this Clubsport - that may change, but if you're going to knock them (and indeed Daves new car which started this thread), get the story right first.

lol it dont get to me at all, At the end of the day I get what makes me happy and it sure does that :D

The HSV uses no more than the gt-t averaged 12 litres per 100 km and that was with me showing off lol and is cheaper to insure which amazes me more room for my two kids in the back and as zylex says rear wheel drive is a hoot.

Now now...

Firstly I realise the 'preference' is there. Theres a reason I ran my own 3SGTE on 98 even as a Gen2 !!

My point was that i'm sure that you could happily run a Gen4 3SGTE on 96 without damaging it. It might be that you need to adjust the tuning??

As stated elsewhere in the thread there are people who've happily run their Caldy on lower octane:

So my point was that the risk of DAMAGE is minimal if the car is treated right.

thats lovely zylex, now mind telling us how much you paid for her? We have chosen our cars for perference, for our own reasons...

Im sure she does corner well.. but anything over 40k, should corner well... obviously when your going to be using it for the ocasional track day and the likes..... As said, i wouldnt mind one at all, great cruisers, bit heavy on petrol for my wallet, arse to park, however they do sound mint.

If i ever have 40k to blow on a heavy v8, ill keep it in mind ;). then again id probbaly just buy a gtr if i had 40k *sigh*... i need more money :cry: :cry: :cry:

Exactly, I been in a great number of Holdens/Fords in my time, and the whole feel of the car is just so superior to any Japanese car...and the space is the best part... 8)

I think I just finally understood the "cozmo" thing going on this forum...

He wasn't having a go at any other cars bud, quite the opposite. He DID defend people trying to say his big flash car is crap, which is totally fair enough. Of course his car is expensive - look at the damn thing, its a leather filled, 5 seater car with 300kW. You think that comes cheap?

As noted by many people, the gas usage thing isn't as bad as people like to think either. If its hard for you to park, learn to drive.

Horses for courses really. No need to bag his car just cause you dont like it - people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones remember.

I find they use about as much petrol, if not a little less than a two litre turbo on average. They're not hard to park at all - maybe compared to a Starlet they might be, but relatively the same as anything else. Not really into talking about how much I paid for it - when I got it, it was new, ordered in and I had quite a few accessories, etc. put on it.

I had ordered another clubsport - but changed my mind at the last minute. I'll probably keep my clubsport and make it a 'cruiser' and look at a GTR next for track stuff.

Friends of ours just got a new sv8. And it uses just 11 litres to 100km. Thats very good for a 5.7 v8. And it doesnt get driven very slowly either 8)
