so does that mean if you have 5km of clear road you can travel at mega speed with a good brake, suspension tyre package???

as long as you are below the speed limit, yes. :)
it dosn't mention anything about exceeding the speed limit and not stopping in time :P

thats like saying that murder is legal as long as you don't speed home rofl
laws are cumulative, not one or the other. :)

So during the day, sounds like you should be relatively right. But night time they look like they are going to enforce it. I.E. targeting the ones who lap. I should be safe then. I can't be $&#$% driving half the time these days lol.

ggnz, you best go fit a normel muffler :P that car only has a 57mm (2 and a quarter) exhaust, 2 resos, and a boyracer muffler, in short, nothing that really reduces noise :D. Works well at high revs though hahaah.

Aye? So you're saying that it would make the same amount of noise with a factory/normal muffler. I thought the tip was the part making the noise.

I dont understand

HAHA

Factory = Headers -> Cat -> Baby Muffler -> Bigger Muffler (normel style)
Yours = Headers -> 19" Reso -> 19" reso -> Big Boyracer Muffler (i think this is what your calling a "tip").

Remmeber a tip is just a bit welded onto a NORMEL muffler, you have a tin can style one.... (stright through). In short, the exhaust system has as little restriction as possible. While not giving me tickets EVERYWHERE i went. But this new law means... mmmm

Soooo..... if the cops can fine us for a loud exhaust on 'their' judgement....

...can we then do the same when they put their siren on to pull us over???

IMO, I think a police siren is alot louder and annoying than an loud exhaust system, and it seems to carry the sound further, especially at night time!!!

New Advertisement in NZ Herald:

Do you want a new job?

We are offering the right people the following job perks:

* Drive Taxpayer Funded Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons at any speed you wish at any time of the day or night and on any road.
* Run Red Lights if you don't want to wait in traffic like the rest of the motorists around you.
* Pull over anyone you want to, even if they are really doing nothing wrong, and give them a fine to pay to the Government to pay for the petrol for your Taxpayer Funded Vehicle.
* Drive home drunk from the bars that we provide, in your Taxpayer Funded Vehicle.
* Take bribes and backhanders from drunk Council officials that you may have 'accidentally' pulled over on their way home from the pub, and let them go on their merry way with no fine at all.

If these perks sound like something you would like to be involved in, then...

the engine makes the noise :P, the resos make it droner, (changing the frequency of the exhaust note), or somewhat along those lines, and the rear muffler... dosnt really do much... makes it a bit dronier, and lets you still talk / listen when near / in the car :D.

stick a normel muffler in i suppose, remove some of the raspyness, and wont be as loud.

stolen from a rally discussion on the same subject:

I learnt years ago, no it was last century how to have a queit car. At the first Nissian Mobil race at Wellington the Schiner BMW's cars where alot queiter than any one else, the T.V. reporter asked Schiner hoe they did it.

Here follows the answer

The car has to have an expansion chamber that is at lest equal to or greater than the CC rating for the car, then a free follow muffler just before the end of the exhaust.

I've down this on three car's and it work well. I use a Coby Hot Dog muffler, they are straight through with prefarate holes in the muffler.

For the only Mazda Chicken Cooker ( Rotary ) the trick is to run two primary pipes for as long as possible with a hot dog in each pipe, then joining them just as they go over the diff then a good muffler.

I hope this help's with your problem, When I've down this there was no noticeable lost of Horse power.

also:

We have used the BMW set up on a number of racecars to get them down to the required levels, it does work well. Just adding the expansion chamber to the V8 Commodore we were running took 12db off thing.

With a turbo car we have found an expansion chamber equal to or greater than twice the cubic capacity of the engine is the trick.

there you go fellas, the recipe for a free-flowing exhaust now with less dB's

this law is more biased towards the guys who do the big exhausts for noise, and not for performance....

louder is faster au!

no sh!t sherlock, and so it friggingly well should be. the references above were ways in which cars had been modified to meet restrictions, as it is not only boy-racers that have been potted. many rally cars have been busted on touring stages as well, hence the need for measures to be taken to hush them without a performance loss.

CozmoNz wrote:louder is faster au!
geez, how fast would have the M3 Schnitzer's been had that they not been hushed :?:

those who truely believe that a loud exhaust makes it faster, better find an extra form of income. i don't actually believe they will ALWAYS put demerit points on to the offence, it will more than likely be a fine plus discretional points, that is, if you piss the cop off, you'll cop demerits, maybe?????

it will almost certainly make less power than with stock exhaust.

if you've got the demerits and $$ to spare, it doesn't really matter anyway. (just like speeding) so get a good job, make lots of money, and do what the hell you like.

Amnd as i said last nite, the fine is the same whether it's a tad noisy, or bordering on painfull. So you may as well just run straight pipe

As much as I don't like the idea of my demrits being in the hands of a cop, that is mainly due to a lack of faith I now have in the system.

But traffic offences isn't what the Police are all about, anyone think it might be benificial for seperate Police/Traffic Control forces?

I want to respect the Police.
