I thought about this when I went to have a look at the car, I would have gone up the drive to check the front but there was an angry looking man and woman standing in the drive so didn't want to take my chances. Also if we were to "aquire" the plates without his knowledge, he would most likely report them stolen, and then when they show up on Brad's car he would be the one in trouble!

he doesn't own the plates in the first place, so surely reporting them stolen wouldn't achieve much.

If the person is screwing you around, off to the cop shop i'd be going, who has time for that kinda bs :?

Yeah probably better for Brad to just call the pigs. They will get there eventually.

There's like a saying or something.. quite archaic but .. something like: Honesty is the best policy :)

At the end of the day it's only numberplates and they shouldn't have been on the car when you sold it.

I'd tend to agree...it only costs $14 and takes about 5 mins to get new plates at your local AA outlet...

Friggen oath. Brad, text Rich up and tell him to go round and get the plates on your behalf, then text the guy and tell him that he's coming round to collect em.

Cheers guys.

The reason it still had my plates on it, was that I didnt get to Chch on time...so the AA would most likely have been closed.
Im giving the guy the benefit of the doubt at the moment as it may very well have been stolen, and if it had, it'd be pretty rank to have a bunch of guys rock up and demand the plates then and there.
I'm gonna send him a txt in the morning and give him a reminder to send them ASAP. Otherwise I will be calling the cops.

Thanks to a contact, I've found the car was never reported stolen. I'll be calling the police tomorrow after work to report it.

The guy you bought it from sounds like a right $&#$% bag.

Sounds like he messed with the wrong person too.

As if a theif would only steal one of the number plates.

As if he WOULDNT have reported it stolen, the second he noticed that it was gone.

Exactly! If a theif is going to steal plates for like a robbery or something, they would take both plates. Not only that, but they'd grab a plain jane plate instead of some that stick out like the dogs bollocks!

Just as an addition to this - I tried to report the plates stolen on Monday...when I explained what had happened, the cop said "Its a civil matter, nothing we can do sorry".

do you have paper work stating the plates wernt part of the sale as by law i think youd find if there isnt he would now be the legal owner of the plates based on the * posetion is 9/10th of the law * and that hes the owner of the car that there fixed to.

I asked to put my plate on my compnay car for shit and giggles, but if i did as the cars not registred to me the company could refuse to not let me have them, the fact i bought them dont mean anthing the owner is deemed by the car there registerd to i think youd find.

Just some free info.
