yeah i wouldnt be placing $$$ on an early 3gse curren against any manual 20v
20v has the friend of weight and gear ratios.

Even when my SW had the gen 2 3SGE, there was a COLOSSAL difference between that and the curren... It's hard to believe that the curren had an extra ~20hp, because it was just sooo much slower, and felt like such a... funless barge. :?

I swapped cars with my mate once since I've had the gen 4 engine, and he couldnt believe that it was still a 2 litre engine, more or less the same as his.

Weight is the worst thing for NA engines, and Currens aint light.

Curren = 1190kg
20v (ae101) = 1090kg

Not much in it really, on paper the curren is faster do those 3s's really make 180hp? or is it a bit of a lie.

Or could they just have really really crap gear ratios?

i wouldnt be suprised if the curren was a lot heavier than that rated weight.
my ae101 was 1100, with some extra bits on it, id say most would be ~ 1050kg.

plus those non-vvti 3sge's really arent that special. ~100-110kw atw maybe.

Oh also don't forget about the audi's some of them are 20 valve although slightly different with 5 cylinders i guess

i was going to mention, in addition to my 20v, there is brendon pushing ~200-220kw atw, barry with 340kw, matt dunn with 200-220kw , so if you spend as much time+$$+energy playing with a 20v, youll have the same or better result as a fwd 3sgte, in a better lookin car :wink:

I'd say people mock currens because...

-most have slush boxes in them (autos)
-rice boys get there hands on them and put on loud exhausts
-they are FWD and not exactly that quick

...in saying that I wouldnt call them ugly, they would still be less shamefull than driving a honda. You probably wouldnt get sh#t for owning a curren if ya dropped in a 3SGTE :P
