How is the Supra much less of a GT car than a Soarer?

To be honest, all the GT4s I've driven are slow as hell. I'm not saying the Soarers are a lot faster, though I'd take a turbo JZ one against a GT4 any day.

Not that speed is everything of course.

I hate words like "sports" or "sporty" being used to describe cars. People who use them usually don't know anything.

What about the LFA?

.... it's a pity but nothing else really shines. The Supra is a whale, the Soarer more so. Toyota make good reliable cars (bar the 165/185), not the most spectacular cars.
I don't know if I'd include the 2000GT on the list either. With 350 cars ever produced where do you cross the production line? The Toyota GTOne would certainly be on my list if production numbers weren't an issue.

I gotta agree here I don't understand why the LFA isn't the top of the sporty list when it comes to Toyota/Lexus its easily the length of the street sportier than anything Toyota has done in the past and it isn't even close.

With regards to the Supra and Whale comparisons I don't understand it I have managed a laptime of 1.14.52 around Manfield in this so called Whale and have won clubsport dual car sprint type events in this so called Whale when this is mentioned it cracks me up its as though people who say stuff like this have either never driven one anywhere near the limit and think these cars don't handle well.

Of all the Toyota's made outside of the LFA the Supra has the best brakes though it is heavy the 4/2 pot combo brakes held the 100/0 deceleration record for production car for years only beaten by the Porsche GT3 when they first came out I don't think many Toyota's can claim that.

I think the LFA didn't make it in there because it is a Super car and not a Sports Car and Topgear tend to make a big deal about those kind of things.

Im with you Coryn, most shots levelled at the Supra in regards to its weight/poor handling are fired by those with little or no experience in pushing one on the track.

Yours is stock standard too aye? With enough money you can make anything quicker / handle better.

I'd own one any day of the week tbh.

My Toyota is Turbo, 4wd and sporty. It just happens to be 'sporty' off road, and weighs 2500kgs.

wow i didn't know that toyota was that successful in rallying.

I was thinking about it last night, the definition of sports car is pretty damn hard to establish, I guess it all comes down to personal opinion as everyone else has stated.

At one end you have the suzuki cappuccino and at the other you have whales like the supra and 300/350zx with everything else in between.

I gotta stand firm though, must be 2 door and RWD :-)

is an evo a sports car? :wink:

before you go wtf, matts bagging the supra, saying its not a sports car, or that im calling it sporty.. that is a genuine question.

I'm not entirely sure what the Supra was designed for... At a glance it would seem to be a Grand Tourer, but then you would have to consider the EVO a Sporty Sedan, not a sports car. The Supra was used in JGTC, so by your argument, you would also consider it a sports car? I don't consider the EVO a sports car... But maybe I'm just being biased because I don't think AWD cars should be considered sports cars

Going back to the Soarer - it's certainly sportier than your average car, but I don't think it falls into the category of "Sports car", nor does the Supra for that matter, but the Supra is a heck of a lot closer

Imho, the supra was designed to be Toyotas greatest ever showcase of over engineering.

If its not considered sporty, then surely it must be considered a supermarket trolley, what with that bloody huge wing bolted to the back of it.

I guess my comparitive is a little skewed.

Rightttt.. Im going to say half of you have not driven a soarer.

Soarers have a bad reputation all over the place, and im still trying to find out why, mine loves the twistys, and this is coming from some one whos taken a aw11, ae101 s/s, gt4 st185 and a sw20 turbo down the same road. (Sure not race cars, but there not slow either)

All the driveline and suspension parts are interchangeable with the jza80.

Also my uzz doesnt actually weigh much more then an st185 or jza80.
