Haha, probably a good thing you weren't bidding against me as I was rapidly approaching the limit I had set. The photos on the auction weren't very good, so that wouldn't have helped.

Hmm yeah, a manual conversion wouldn't cost much, although I'm determined to only buy the essentials for this car, as my other Corolla owes me to much to begin with. I'll probably end up giving this to my partner when I'm done with it (she drives an auto AE101 Levin) so keeping it as stock as possible is the goal.

Very good point. I must admit that it did cross my mind when I saw how stock it is. The auto box would probably be pretty underwhelming around the circuit though

Labour day means opportunity to do more work.

Pushed car out of garage and allowed me to change a lightblub that had been out for 18 months, clean up and re-arrange the garage and break out the air compressor and blow all the dust off the car.
Image

Removed the side spoiler blocks so I can wetsand for paint.
Image

Removed the bump strips as well using a trim tool. Still need to get the turps and get all the junk off.
Image

I have been slowly hacking away at the 40mm wider guard. Its taken around 2 months on and off to get to this point. Drivers side complete and ready to be moulded.
Image

Current state with my friend Paul over to help me push the car back in the garage.
Image

And back in the garage
Image

Ready for the next phase in replicating the wider guard on the passenger side. Then multi-part moulds of the guards and recreate in fibreglass.

Productive day for me.

Went to the Playday at Taupo. Did 171km on about 45 litres of BP98. Tony the organiser asked if I wanted to do the last session. Said no as I thought the brake pads were probably on their last legs. Putting the car on the trailer, the right front inside brake pad backing plate fell out onto the ground!! So pleased I didn't go back out. Gearbox felt better with the Redline lightweight shockproof in it but think the clutch still might need doing. Car needs a wheel alignment and theres also a grumbly bearing in the back somewhere. You'd think a bearing would last longer than 28 years of abuse wouldn't you, with the last 12 only being on the track.....
See ya

Thanks for the compliment. If you check my build thread, you can see what I've done over the years. Its been a real labour of love, but once the body work and paint are done, then its just finishing up the wiring and back onto the road.

Been flat out working on the new FX daily since I bought it on Monday. Got it warranted and registered yesterday so that was a big relief.

Some of the things I've done today and over the past week have been:

* Drain and flush the radiator + heater core and refill with new fluid.
* Replaced both radiator hoses as they were 'crunchy' when squeezed.
* Replaced radiator cap.
* Installed new Denso twin tip platinum spark plugs.
* Did a compression test - 150psi on all four cylinders - Not great but not bad.
* Fitted new air filter.
* Changed the engine oil and filter.
* Filled up the windscreen washer bottle with Bars Bugs instead of just water.
* Removed the plenum/trumpets and cleaned all of the throttle bodies.
* Fixed the inoperable, unconnected petrol flap.
* Replaced two front tyres with brand new Hankooks + balanced rear wheels.
* Replaced any missing clips, buttons, screws etc.
* Changed oxygen sensor with lower km one.
* Replaced left tail light as it had condensation between the inner lenses.
* Polished the headlights and polished the twin chrome exhaust tips.
* Installed missing battery clamp + a couple of blown bulbs.
* Bought some touch up paint to hide any stone chips.

+ a whole bunch of other small things. Planning on installing some OEM optional tweeter pods and tweeters that I've had sitting here for a while, and maybe installing the white faced BZ Touring cluster that's also sitting here (coincidentally it almost has the exact same amount of km's on it). Aiming to give it a good polish this weekend too.

I managed to snap this photo of it parked next to a brand new 2013 Corolla Levin SX the other day. Funny how much they've changed over the last 21-years:

Took a wheel off the honda (used factory wheel brace.. first time it's ever been used) to see what the shocks were.. Mugen by Showa. I think that counts as win.

Pulled out the front seats in the FX to give them a good clean, cleaned the rear ones while they were still in place. Vacuumed everything while the seats were removed, removed the centre console to check for any rubbish underneath, sadly no coins, although did find a rather large diamond earring, whether it's a real diamond is yet to be determined . Washed it, gave it a once over with the claybar and then polished it. And last but not least, fitted the OEM optional tweeters/pods that I've had sitting here for a while.

Cut the bottom off my fuse box, in the hope it will help me to shoehorn it in somewhere, now that the throttle body sits where it used to, and unclipped lots of factory loom casing so I can have some more wire length to work with

Bought some flatbar and made the mounting brackets for the new intercooler, and used a hose to fill up the the core to check for leaks.

Took to my Q45 throttle body with a hacksaw and file, to remove all sorts of ugly off it, not to mention a couple of hundred grams lol. It looks a million time better now.

Blasted out the inside of the FFIM to get rid of any stray metal shavings, and very glad I did as there were many lol.
