Checked tyre pressures, coolant level and oil level.

Oil level wasn't even registering on the dipstick  Took me about 30 seconds and a few more rechecks to realise that the oil was actually there. But i'm just so used to seeing solid black oil, that I couldn't even see it  It also appears to have a CVT gearbox not a normal auto box as they are all advertised with on the tard. I should stick to old cars I think.

Managed to find some 'super low' King Springs at Pick-A-Part yesterday, and at only $11 a spring I wasn't going to leave them there

Chucked them in the FX today and it dropped a good couple of inches. All it needs now are some decent wheels and this daily driver will be complete 8)

I was going to say it will be an expensive daily as the shocks will likely die a lot sooner. But you'll just get pick a part replacements, so maybe not haha. Nice colour. 8)

I vaguely recall myself saying that too . I've gotten so used to driving the white one lowered for all of these years, so to drive a car at standard height it felt weird. It would float along the road and roll around corners. To be completely honest it was rather boring, but with the firmer springs it adds a bit more excitement to the daily commute - That is, however, if your idea of excitement is feeling every bump in the road, followed by a series of "awghh"s and "arr"s :). I'll keep the factory springs for when I eventually sell it as it'll no doubt be worth more unmodified.

Thanks! The fluro lights in the PAk'n'Save carpark did a pretty good job at bringing out the colour and the shine. It was pretty flat when I first bought it on Labour Weekend.

Haha yeah, the shocks are already sub-par, as I discovered today when I removed them, but they seem to absorb the bumps ok. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a set of Monroe shocks at Pick-A-Part in future. Thanks, I'm really loving the colour. It's quite similar to the orange of the new GT86.

Manual conversion won't be happening I'm afraid ;). I've got my white one for that. I must admit, it's nice being able to kick back in an auto for a change. I used to detest autos, but for a daily it makes perfect sense. No dead leg in traffic, no clutch to replace and no temptation to floor it every straight clear piece of road I see. It's exactly what I need 8)

Race car has new crank and big end bearings, TOMS intake, C56 with a plate diff (to replace C52 with viscous).

Bearings were in surprisingly ok condition, considering it was an unknown engine straight out of a wreckers, that has been a race car engine for the last 7 years.

Fitted the engine back into the car and my newly modified gearbox which has brought my shifter 156mm forward...looks like it should be workable now.

also it helped sort out issues with the gearbox cross member,

Will have to re-check my driveshaft working angles again tomorrow.

Installed another head-unit into the FX. Managed to get the exact same model as the one in my white one for a really good price, so now have my Bluetooth functionality back while in the orange one.

Also decided to route the wiring for my V1 radar detector under the dash and along the pillar strip so I don't have an annoying curly cord hanging in the way when driving. I bought another concealed display the other day so mounted that at the same time. The interior is literally starting to look like my white one now. I won't be going crazy with all of the options etc but it's nice to have a familiar layout to jump into :)

V1 in a FX-GT, what a rebel, I didn't even think people still used detectors TBH.

Washed one, then another, then another, then another. Took some snaps, swapped some knobs. Almost ready to get rid of a couple 8)

I don't tend to go over the speed limit much in the FX but it's more for peace of mind than anything else really. With the 4kph speed limit threshold that comes in over the Christmas period I'd say it'd be going off more than ever.

How do you find the V1?

I nearly bought one but it was cheap enough I started questioning its legitimacy, they get stolen a lot

The V1 is great. Definitely the best radar I've ever used. I've had mine for a good couple of years now and it has paid for itself many times over. The only downside is that the display angles towards the left a little bit (makes sense since it's made in the US) but with the additional purchase of the concealed display you can place it wherever you like so it's only a glance away. I've had it set up like that in my white one for years so to have to look up to the windscreen (or in this case the passenger's sunvisor) was a pain, so I decided to buy another concealed display.

Yeah I can imagine there'd be a few stolen ones out there. The first thing to ask for before buying one is the serial number. Not only does this help to weed out the stolen ones but you can check exactly which version it is by entering the serial number into the Valentine One website. The one to go for is V1.8.A, with the crystal controlled frequency tuning. This is the latest and greatest performer and due to the crystal controlled frequency tuning it won't go 'out of tune' like the previous versions, meaning you'll never have to worry about the accuracy/range of the radar as the years go on. V1.8.A has been out for a while now, and even though there are a couple of newer features such as ESP and Traffic Monitor Filter you really don't need these, especially since the TMF is for the US only.

What I like the most about the V1 is that you can turn off each individual band, unlike a lot of other radars that only have 'highway' and 'city' modes. For example, around town I only ever have Ka Band (police radar) and Laser (gun) activated, but when I head out of town (such as on a State Highway or in the country) I turn on K band so it picks up any roadside speed camera vans. If you have K band on around town it'll pick up every conceivable security camera and automatic opening door, but fortunately it's very quick and easy to turn your preferred bands on or off. Because of this, when it goes off I know for a fact there's a 'threat' around, whereas with previous cheaper radars I've owned I got so used to it going off every 5-seconds that I'd literally 'tune out' and when a real threat did occur I'd subconsciously ignore it (sort of like the boy who cried wolf ).

Anyway, if you can get one for between $350-550 you'd be doing well. Brand new they're about a grand. Ignore it when you see "tuned for NZ conditions", because all that means is that they're turned off a few bands like I previously mentioned. You can do that in a few seconds with all of them. Just be sure to get the 10-digit serial number (found on the bottom of the unit), check it on the V1 site and you'll be sweet as 8)
