Well according to the horses mouth, we won't be seeing a Glenn Suckling 7 second pass at Taupo, as he was committed to an NZDRA run event the week prior.

Graeme from Croydon's

Croydons wrote:I have just got off the phone with Glenn Suckling. He's not a member of this forum and has asked me to post the following on his behalf.

Glenn regrets to advise you all that Mag And Turbo Warehouse / GDS Motorsports Nissan Skyline GT-R will not be attending the forthcoming HKS Import All-Stars Meet scheduled for Saturday the 17th of February. As you know, there has been discussion and rumour here about Glenn appearing at this event to race against Heat Treatments in place of the HKS Skyline.

Glenn has been faced with a very tough decision to make. Many of you will not be aware that the previous weekend (10th and 11th) is the NZDRA Nationals at Champion Dragway, and that Glenn had entered and committed to this event some months back.

Glenn is running on a very limited campaign budget this season and has had to choose carefully the events best suited to the car and sponsorship requirements. He works full-time and the Skyline development work takes place after hours on his own time.

Glenn and his team have decided that the best opportunity to run the Skyline on full power in an attempt to crack a 7-second pass this year is the fully prepped track offered by Champion, with plenty of rubber laid down by the V8-based drag slicks of the 6, 7 and 8-second cars, on a known track and conditions. He has been working towards this event all season as the "big one" for his team, together with other limited appearances (including the 4 and Rotor Nationals).

The turn-around time of only one week between events (remembering that the NZDRA Nationals start qualifying on the Saturday and racing on the Sunday) just doesn't give sufficient margin for error if he breaks something or strikes problems during the meet. A two-week gap could be done but as most in the Pro game will tell you, if you're under pressure with breakages, you need all the time you can get, and a five-day window when (a) you work full-time during the week and (b) you do pretty much all your own work on the car just puts too much out to chance that you won't get it repaired in time. A one-week window puts pressure on Glenn to turn the car around and prep it again for Taupo, even assuming it runs with reliability the weekend before, not to mention financial pressure to run an additional event over and above his season budget.

In a Hobson's choice scenario, in discussions with all concerned, Glenn has decided to stay with his original plan and run at the Champion event. All of us involved as friends and sponsors of Glenn are obviously sad he can't do both, but we understand and wholeheartedly agree his decision is the right one under the circumstances.

Yes, appearance money was discussed, but no, this isn't a factor in Glenn's decision. It's just too close to the event offering his best chance to run a 7-second pass this year, and with his budget and pressure to get there, I for one applaud his clear thinking and game plan to reach his goal.

Glenn, the GDS Motorsports Team and sponsors wish the Import All Stars meet the very best and encourage you all to still attend despite the absence of the HKS car running- New Zealand can field a world-class standard of Import Racing and with the list of confirmed racers so far it promises to be a great day out.

-Thanks, I've posted this up for Glenn as quickly as I can to avoid any further speculation.

So is this event gone to SHIT or what.....

Heat Treatments vs Who?????????

Man did NZPC must have known before the car was put on the boat that it was not going to race surely...

HKS would'nt just pull the pin after putting the car on the boat, this would be a serious lack of professionalism..

The event has lost alot of interest for me as I really wanted to see the HKS car race win or lose..But in saying that the locals should be able to put on a decent show...

I no this is off topic but if they wanted to run a real good import event why look to Japan for fast cars when they got real fast rotors in Aus.Or even get Joe Signorelli's Camrydore over here and get that running against the best local talent now this is something I'd pay to see.I've seen footage of the Camrydore racing the Rayglass Datto and it absolutely blew its doors off....I mean the Camrydore is the fastest import in Australaisia so I'd pay to see that.never mind 7 second runs I'd pay to see a 6 anyday....... :D

Hows things Coryn? I wont make Taupo this time round but am aiming for Manfield in April. Finally got semi slicks for my boat.

I would pay to see the Camrydore! That would have been O for Orsum to see. Screaming 6s with huge power definitely do something silly for me haha.

RH9 - Oh an assault on Manfeild? What meet? I'd be keen to do the 15minute drive out to check that out :D

2jayz, trust me here, I am no politician and never will be, a spade is a spade as far as I am concerned.

The car was in a container and on its way from Thailand (where it has been since November last year) when we found out the situation.

If anybody wishes to read about the nightmares we have been through, shoot over to the NZPC forums.....but if you wish to enjoy a fantastic day's entertainment may I suggest you make it to Taupo on Feb 17.

And those who intend to race, head over to www.lid.co.nz - that way you'll save $20 by pre-entering before the day....

More news in a couple of days....

Vvega, I apologise for the advert, it was supposed to have been changed on Friday, however the Parkside Media team have spent the last three days moving office and their webmaster didn't get to it.

I just read your other comment further up the string about timing equipment. Our agreement with Lakeside was that we would not be interested in using their system for this event. They have secured the latest Portatree timing equipment from Southern Dragways along with their technicians to run it on the day. Warren and Jay have the system in their hands now and I do not expect any issues on the day.

Have you signed up to race yet?

That NZPC ad still hasn't been changed - As much as i appreciate SOMEONE arranging import racing events in NZ, this is a shocking screw-up. It was also advertised on performance car tv on sunday - no update notice at the end of the show or anything. If it really is HKS just deciding to back out at the last minute, they should be made to pay. Seems like a little game of beaurocratic one-upmanship to me.

Website will be done tomorrow morning. TV programme went to bed before Christmas, and yes I am embarrassed about the "screw-up", the magazine went to press before we could change that as well.

We are still fighting to change radio advertising as of yesterday.

Now can you do your part and help advise all and sundry about the change of plans. If there is any other way of advising the general public please let me know and we will attempt to disseminate the information via your suggestions....

Any more questions?

maybe try putting a big ad in the paper ... it'll be costly but its gonna cost you a lot more in reputation points if a couple of hundred/thousand wahtever people turn up expecting to see HKS race like it says in all the ads and its just sitting there looking pretty
