next time that happens, use *555. Speed limit for towing is 90km/h - combination of speeding and tailgating would get their attention nicely.

Plenty of numpties out there. Had a car overtake me on SH2 just this morning (3am) by crossing double-yellow lines. I was in a heavy vehicle that is governed to 95km/h - and there was a passing lane about 1km further up the road

I'd forgotton his rego by the time i got home to file a complaint, though :\

i think steves comments about bikes was more about putting the shits up people who think they own the road / are death proof.

riding bikes over the years has certainly improved my driving (even though i thought i was pretty good already - like most people no doubt!)

well two weeks ago on the way to the snow we were stuck in a huge que of traffic close to the front.. a b4 legacy pulled over to let my mate past him then started driving erratically for a while and going past a few decent straights started high beaming my mate.. with more erratic driving then proceeded to pass on a blind double yellow corner... scaring the shit out of both of us, if something had happened i probably would have collected it. but was still stuck in the que. sadly there was no reception at the time.. almost pulled into bp behind them at taumranui (they were still only a few cars ahead of us by then...)


the reason for nz having low driving age is because of the population that live out of town with no means of regular transport to any town other then school buses... but hey.. the country is beginning to forget what role farming plays in this counters economy.. so lets start screwing them over!

i do believe that driver training should be compulsory for restricted license... not the stupid defensive driving they have these days, witch is just about hazard detection.. but practical loss of control in controlled environment stuff... show what happens wen you don't know what your doing... and have a few laps around a track so when people leave the citys they can do more then 50kmh around a slight bend in the road..

Both were being dicks, one was a carload of people who were throwing their empties out the window at 100K trying to hit the roadsigns.


And I know your not supposed to pass on the left, but I have at times on passing lanes, when you get a que of 15 cars all in the fast lane,
aand they are going about 5K faster than the one cars in the slow lane.
So I have driven up the slow lane and merged back in behind the slow car, ahead of the 10 that didn't get past it.

Its called Pro-drive... Motor Sport NZ ran it until funding ran out... thanks the government, again.
There are plenty places that offer driving training with trainers who actually have the ability. However most of them are motorsport based and cost a lot to attend. Hrmm

No you get me wrong, i know what pro-drive was, i was lucky enough to do a prodrive course when i was much younger and just got my licence.
What i mean is what training to the driving instructors have to have before they are allowed to go out and teach driving on our roads for cash reward. Is it just a short written/scratchie test or do they actually have to do a full on course that they must get %100 for or fail and does it have any practical component in it at all??
I mean normally when you see and aa driver instruction car with only the instructor in it they are one of the worst on the road for cutting you off, not using mirrors not indicating not merging not stoping at stop signs running reds etc etc. I normally spot them around 2.45-3pm heading out to the schools to get there 1st student in

Incidentally it is legal to pass on the left if you're in a discrete, marked lane.

So undertaking at a passing lane is fine, if there's slow gits on the outside.

my personal opinion on how to help fix problems:

minimum driving age 16
very strict rules etc for learners and restricted
minimum number of hours/kms before graduation, including proper defensive driving and lessons (including a variety of vehicles and road conditions)
harder tests, theory and practical
higher cost of getting licence
really harsh penalties for breaching licence conditions
re-sitting licence every 10 years
under 20, maybe up to 25, zero blood alcohol no matter what licence you have, also anybody older on restricted and learner licences
leave existing 400mccg or whatever it is as is for older drivers with full licence
no changing speed limits - they are fine as is (30-40kph past schools maybe)
more undercover cops policing speed in roadworks into/out of towns and past schools
make some holding up traffic/driving like an asshat rules
compulsory 3rd party insurance (with harsh penalties, and also regulated by govt so that insurance co's dont make it stupidly expensive)
cc ratings/turbo limitations or classes for younger/learner/restricted drivers
people that are repeat offenders are banned from driving permanently (ie drink driving etc)

most of this is how they operate in oz already

main focus's are driving age , alcohol limits being sticted , and the cars kids can drive ..

you have stuff all chance o a kid getitng hands on say a WRX for their first car in australia, insurance basically halts owning one till your over 25 , they have power to weight rations set in place for what cars you can drive according to age .

you cant have ANY alcohol in your system till after your 21 , and then you have open access to all car makes , any types you like
