Stupidest thing I've ever heard. I spose you have proof of this? I work on both on a daily basis and it sounds to me like you're talking out of your ass tbh. Most cars have a maintenance schedule that requires an oil and filter change every 10-15000 kms or once a year - whichever comes first.
So what you're saying is that if you own a Toyota/Jappa you can get away with missing a year or two and only service your car once every 3 years/45000kms without any consequences?
