Disagree, one track isnt representative of the affects it might have over the course of the season and different tracks/conditions.

Especially with longer straights.

Hence why I added the at the moment :P. Agree that it could work with a longer deployment zone but maybe Melbourne isn't suited to it? Definitely didn't work for Button vs. Massa, which resulted in some awesome TV in my opinion but there you go. Did seem to work when overtaking the slower drivers, but noone ever really has problems with that anyway.

Button hints that Ferrari pitted Massa when they did to force a penalty on him. Pretty rude to browse handed a penalty under those conditions.
Petrov 3rd? Wtf!

Justin has been quiet, maybe he choked on his hat?

Thems the breaks. Button got flustered and stuffed up and Ferrari capitalised. Genius move telling Massa to let Alonso pass as well straight afterwards, would have led to a two easy overtakes had Jenson let them past straight away. As it happened he held out and got the drive through penalty.

Will be interesting (but ultimately irrelevant) to see if Button did have his nose in front at the corner. I'm sure it will be hotly debated by the fans on either side.

By the way, for proof of the engineering awesomeness behind the RB front wing, check out the following pics. I think its awesome that they introduced a load test to stop this but the engineers just design the laminate to pass the load test, but still flex under the aero load. Definitely some heavy calculations behind that wing.

Ollie, I was more meaning harsh for the FIA to pass a penalty. I have not seen the move, but in reading about it he made a pass by cutting the chicane, and instantly Massa pitted therefore not giving Button a chance to hand it back.
Handing him a penalty does not seem fair as Massa pitted and would have lost that place anyway, it's not as if Button mugged him and took advantage of it.
That's my take on what I have read

Will be very interested to see what extra load tests they will do on the RB front wing as all the teams will have a moan very shortly.

Great job by Petrov, Heidfelds stocks just dropped massively.

Shame that both Merc's had to retire :(

Roll on Malaysia where the DRS will work wonders :)

Yeah I'm chocking on my hat

Massa was clearly passed by Button, thought the penatly was very unjust

Great race by Vettel, pure domination with out Kers rest of the feild should be very worried

Yes I will admit I was wrong about Mclarens pace, but I still don't like that team (Also how did Hamilton pass scuitneering with that Plank, surely it must have been dmaged beyond the allowable amounts)

Very very very disapointed by what has happend to Sauber, I hope that con appeal they can have DSQ overturned

Hahahahaha how can it be hotley debated when the officials have already dished out the penalty, personally I agree with Brundle and Coulthard at the time they saw it how the officials saw it penalty on Button the fans well they can have an opinion all they like they still have no sway on the decision made by the stewards.

Petrov holding off Alonso hmmmm that sounds familiar.

Pity the Mclarens not built like a Sauber tank, becasue if that had been Kobi last year in the same postion as Button he would of jsut held his ground

Anyway Button managed to get back past Masaa later on so all was well

By hotly debated, I mean it will be a good reason for the passionate fans on either side to have a good old fashioned whine. I agree that nothing will come of it for sure :) But you can always rely on McLaren fans and Ferrari fans to complain about who they think was right (their team) and who was wrong (the other team). :)

Also agree that the Sauber thing is disappointing, especially with both of them in the points. From interviews with James Key it seems like its a manufacturing, rather than design thing.

Anyone that thinks button was past massa is clearly wrong. That's all there is to it.

Nope I think Button should have just held his line instead of peeling off, now that would have been intresting

I'm just not a fan of Button it is clear to me with him and Hamilton in the same car it is clear to me who the better driver is much like the Webber and Massa scenario's with there teamates where as these guys may show flashes they are all clear #2's and I think with regards for whats best for there teams I think Mclaren Ferrari and RBR should clearly pull there resources behind Alonso Vettel and Hamilton if they seriously want to win.

Well after reading a bit more, it seems Massa pitted 2 laps after the move in question, over the radio Button had said he was in front of Massa at the corner, and the move was not seen in the pits.
paints a different picture than what I first read.

Interesting first race of the season. Good to See Petrov on the podium, I wonder how the race would have turned out for Renault if Robert was around. The Renault looks like a quick car.

The DRS didn't work well like was mentioned in the BBC commentary on that Melbourne front straight. There were two separate easy passes with DRS when Kobayashi and one of the STR cars letting some of the front runners sail past without defending tho.

Sauber Disq(http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/ ... 11874.html)

Bad luck for Button as he was clearly faster than Massa at that point. The team could have possibly predicted Massas' pit and just told Button to hold on. Although that could have been detrimental depending on how long Massa made those tyres last.

I didn't look like Button was completely past Massa at the end of the corner either.

Image

I wonder if that was a pit wall decision to let Asslonso past or Massas' quick thinking(the pass happened less than 15secs after Button when off track) or Massa error. Hmm although Alonso was all over the back of Massa by the end of that corner.

Good start to the season imo!

Your probably right Massa probably let Alonso go but why would'nt he its been clear since the middle of last year Alonso is Ferrari's #1 and supposed team orders get thrown out the window when it comes to winning or putting yourself in a position to win the title and I'm assuming other top teams in that position would have done the same.

Sauber have decided not to dispute their disqualification.
Personally, I think its stupid that this wasn't picked up BEFORE the race....
