Insurance costs

Postby vhpacer » Wed Nov 23, 2005 7:37 pm

I was just wondering where all you people insure your cars. What age you are and and what is the car. And third party or full cover?? And of course what does it cost? Excess??

Im looking at buying an R32 gts-t skyline but im a bit worried about insurance  Ive insured 2 cars before and ive never had a claim. I am 17. In dunedin most of the time :) Full licence. Three traffic offences

So is there anywhere anyone suggests?

Thanks :D 8)

15 - 1500cc non turbo imreza through state. mod: full wrx interior, sti wing, kit, superlows, sti mags, exhaust, stereo ($3k) $1200 a year (insured for $8500)
16 - 2l twin turbo legacy gt through nat auto club. mod: 17" chromes, exhaust, pod, boost guage, stereo ($3k), bov $1100 a year (insured for $7000)
16 - 1996 isuzu bighorn (diesel turb) though nat auto club. mod: sounds ($3k) $650 a year (insured for $9000)
17 - 1999 subaru legacy b4 rs (non turb) through nat auto club. mod: chromes, sounds ($3k), pod, exhaust $1050 a year (insured for $14000)
17 - 1996 subaru wrx through tasman pacific. mod: chromes, lowered, exhaust, pod, bov, computer, sounds ($3k) $1100 a year (insured for $13000)
17 - 1999 toyota trueno bzr through tasman pacific. mod: adjusties, mags, pod, exhaust, sounds ($1k) $1300 a year (insured for $13000 but might have to drop that cause realistically its not worth that)

oh btw they all had alarms and the excesses are through the roof... $3500 if they got stolen and $1400 if i crash

i find it funny how out of those 6 cars, the one which i believe carries the least risk (4 were subarus and i just about rolled that truck countless times while attempting to drift in in) costs the most to insure. that was all for me (25 demerits, 2 non insurance crashes, 60% ncb) on full licence and i always had my mates insured with me (except for the impreza cause state are anal pieces of shit *hate*) and full insurance. why not give national auto club and tasman pacific a call and see what they say

I'm insured through a broker with NZI.

Full insurance for

1987 Toyota Hiace Super Custom, Lowered, Tinted, Sounds
1962 Simca Aronde Etoile
1987 Fiat Uno Turbo, Lowered, Mags, Exhaust, Sounds
1999 Flat Deck Braked Car Transporter

The Toyota sounds are insured separate to the vehicle. Theres full on the van, and TPF&T on the Simca & Uno, I pay $330 a year, and theres a nice addition to the audio side for the van :) Works in my favour.

My excess is $900, I've got a couple of fines, had my full for almost 2 years and I turn 19 next month.

I used TOWES INSURANCE BROKERS for my turbo levin showcar.... cost me $65 a month full insurance for 10months, and excess was like $200 on any damage/loss, and i think $1000 for stolen. I had an agreed value of $18,000 on the vehicle too.
Thats witha full licence and a few tickets to my licence.

(this was the only place that would insure me with an agreed value, and pritty much the only place that would insure me fullstop)

When the insurance ppl hear the word TURBO they go oh....
KE-Corolla's for life!!!

insuredirect and pioneer insurance are your best bet.

I got a quote from both of them for a evo 4 valued at $22,000, pioneer was around $1750 a year full cover with $1200 exces on everything ( crash theft etc) and insuredirect was $1450 a year full cover with a exses of $2250 crash and $2000 theft.

Still not sure who i'm going to go with, probably insure direct.

HO-LY-CAR-AP

I have never paid over $500 a year on insurance until I got my Curren at ~23, Subaru Legacy Grand Wagon was the dearest($570/year $13k cover with $300 excess), my current car is $367/year, $250 excess.

man I'm glad I was around before the "boyracer" scene took place fully... and to think what we used to do... why, when I was your age lad... I modded my Hillman Avenger to have the twin-carb setup of the sporty model... all done in school workshop, had to cut a hole through the bonnet of it as the carbs sat too high... looks "real cool" :)

*edit*
actually I'm not sure if thats what I did... we were following advice of the older guys who lived next door, but I think that what it was.
