100 Octane in OZ

basically they said no...

REASONS FOR NOT HAVING OPTIMAX IN NZ
1. Shell has taken a competitive decision not to enter the 98 niche and focus on the main 91 and 95 grades.
2. Market size does not warrant three suppliers. Would not be able to supply at all sites across NZ outside of 2 or 3 main centres. If sites have to have 3 grades of petrol + diesel it requires extra tank.

3. Separate piping and tanks required means that the supply of 95 or diesel would be taken away from sites where the 98 was being sold (like Mobil & BP already do).

4. Removing 95 forces the price up for people who do not want the 98 and makes it hard for a majority user to obtain their grade of choice.

5. Distribution requires dedicated port storage tanks and pipes. Market demand is too small to warrant the infrastructure costs.

im not too fussed bout 100octane. i reckon that it would be more important to make 98 more widely available , than try and get em to change to a completely new one.

How about someone in hear buys out Shell NZ at banish 95 Octane and then replace it with 100 Octane?

I think that is a very feasible plan...I vote Revhead to go to the bank and start sorting this out!!

cracks me up how they talk about people who choose not to have 98 octane

it does work out cheaper on most vehicles

it certainly is on mine... I don't notice anything performance wise with it, but I get almost 100kms more from a tank of 98 than I do from a tank of 91(yay the knock sensors)

btw, I kinda pointed this out to the person who emailed me, and they're getting someone to ring me... I hope I'm not about to become like those guys who invent cars that run on water, and then disappear "under strange circumstances"

anicdotal on mine, but I get better milage than the price difference indicates.

Well, interesting conversation I had with them.

Essencially the answer is no, however it isn't a blanket no.

1.
They said I could ring Shell australia and order it from them, and said that they would do it, but it would have to be big order, and probably a pain to get through customs(additives etc)

2.
The other alternative is to use Shells "Racing 100" fuel, racing licience needed to buy it, which is used by Toyota for the Toyota racing series(13(.5?):1 compression rate on those), 20L @ ~$140, or 200L @ ~$1280(dangerous goods storage licience needed).

3.
This is an interesting one... they are going to get an account manager to "look into it"... he's going to call me.

Basically they said if we can cause enough noise(and by we he means all of us, and the other car clubs, then they may change it) it may be possible.

They had been asked to join Toyspeed themselves :)

We're famous, well, heard of atleast.
I guess at this point I should grab some moderators contact details so that they could potentially be the contact point, after all, I'm a fairly lowly user here : :(

and $6.20/L for the 200L option... i dont think so :( (or $7/L for 20L)

they use stock compression which i think is about 11:1

same as stock(11.5:1) according to http://www.toyotaracing.co.nz/Default.aspx?pageid=5

I swear I read 13:1
maybe too much reading into the TRD kits for the 2zz, checked, yep, thats it.

Hopefully they realise that if they were to make this fuel close to the same price as synergy 8000 and ultimate as well as making it accessible across the country they would have a leg up on both Mobil and BP.

It's a win-win situation...

Thats on pump at Ruapuna for under $1.80 a litre. If you are racing in the drags you can go and fill up with it :)

Or like I have found you can go and fill up and then park in the carpark and watch the racing and have a fun week of driving to work and back
