Good place to get exhaust done in Auckland

Ok help me out - i need to know somewhere in auckland that does exhausts for a good price.. anyone have any suggestions?

Do *NOT* go to Pitstop in Manukau. They made a complete hash of my Alfa, didn't do what I asked, argued with me over what I asked for (in writing) and refused to rectify their piss-poor workmanship.

Their head offices response was "talk to the manager". He was the idiot I dealt with...

I've always found wolff mufflers good.

Try Als Mufflers on Target Rd. Have been there myself as have a few friends and now issues whatsoever.

Als mufflers, great guys, good prices for quality work. Been there many times, also friends of mine been there, no complaints, every one is happy.

Does all of the above mentioned places do mandrell bent systems or do they weld it all together?

I'm going to need a full twin system slapped together in a wee while aswell and have to start shopping around for the best place to do it.

I'd concur with both Als Mufflers and Woolf Mufflers, both do very good work and are familiar with working on modified vehicles. I've used both for my rally cars. Between the two I'd recommend Woolfy every time simply because he is a top-notch bloke and has been supporting NZ motorsport for over 30 years (including us guys at the bottom level).

Besides which, how many grandfathers (other than Woolfy) do you know who are in their mid-70s and go out and trade their (daily-driver) Legacy RSK-B4 for a new WRX STi because it is too slow? :lol: He is a complete revhead just like the rest of us.

(Sorry Silent Knight, I don't know what a mandrell bent system is so you'd have to call them and ask).

Doesnt really make sense, mandrel bending refers to how the pipe is bent, they run balls through the pipe as theyre being bent to stop it crushing the pipe, as opposed to losing diameter through the bend with a conventional crush.

Doesnt refer to wether its welded together or not? Unless im missing something?? Just get an exhaust made up, it will be welded together but they can use mandrel bent pipes or crush bent pipes. All of the above will be able to supply mandrel bends.

As for places, all of mine get made up in my garage, and I buy the occasional mandrel bent pipe from a mate. Had one done years ago at pit stop, was a complete pain in the ass, and always rattled and they didnt do what I asked and in result broke my inlet manifold and $&#$% about 5 gaskets.

I might not have explained myself properly. I'm well aware of what it is.

I know there will still be welds but instead of having welds on corners I can have proper bends.

I have been a to bunch of places in the past who turned me away saying they can't do mandrel bends in pipes which is why asked.

This was in Hamilton though. And nearly 3 years ago. :?

Also it looks better IMO than having welds everywhere. This way basically the only welding to be done will be on the flanges.

Hmm.. Now I get ya, well I definately agree with you, cant say ive come across a place that actually just weld the corners instead of using pre-made bends, every place ive been into seem to have a wall full of pre made bends and or a pipe bender on site, give some of the bigger names a ring.

If I was looking for an exhaust and couldnt make my own id get in touch someone along the lines of evil_si, ive seen his work on a stainless full system, very nice :D

Yea I have talked to Simon about it and he actually made the zorst for my Supra back when I still had it. He welded it all back then and when I asked about the bends he said it's better to go to a zorst place if I wanted the mandrel bends.

I haven't spoken to him in a wee while though so I don't know if he is able to get all of the pre bent pipes etc the right lenghts to slap on. I need the correct lenghts on all the pipes as I preferably only want welding to be done on the flanges.

Hrmmm, fair enough.

It's cool to me, because titanium is insanely hard to cut, and even harder to weld.

The benefit is, that it is incredibly light, and incredibly strong.

So my hat goes off to the fine gentleman that did the piping on that car, as the skill level/patience needed is insane.

Yea, that thing is awesome :D

Twin turbo as well, isn't it?

One thing I love about Nissan's is that they have a real history behind them. The Z series, the GT-R series etc...
The other car companies, whilst they have awesome line-ups as well, can't really match Nissan in that department!

i dont know of any exhaust shops that do mandrel bending, they just have press benders,
i buy individual bends that are mandrel bent and weld the bends in,

i think it would be very expensive to make a 1 off that is mandrel bent and only welded at the joins, you would need a template in the size you want to use and get a company such as tube bending to copy it.

they do however have a minimum distance between bends as well, cant do a lot of close double bends.

i also need a 2-1 exaust peice for my 20v extractors.i only have the 4-2 but would it cost to make up a 2-1 peice with out the original peice?
