And the guy who gets ripped off the most is....

Postby ollieboy » Tue Jun 27, 2006 9:17 pm

I was talking to a guy today. He has a 1994 Celica that he paid 13,000 for and is paying it off over several years.(this means in the end he will pay a lot more for the car.) Mods include a crap body kit that has already fallen off and a bling muffler. The rest is a completely standard car with a 3sfe in it that has had no work on it. Am I just being stupid thinking he got incredibly ripped off or do you to think he got ripped off? To make things worse hes paying $50 a week insurance.

Me i think if it was possible to have this done and not die of it someboday has ripped his wallet right out of his left pocket up in a motion that would completely disembowel him through his mouth.
But then i don't tend to buy a modified car and i still wouldn't have paid that much fo it, unless of course it was an ex works rally car then it would ave been the bargain of the the century

that alone is being ripped off. I dont even pay half that for insurance a MONTH on my car, and its a '75 corolla, with engine conversion, sound system, paint job and everything...but i guess thats what you get if you tell your insurance company the car is worth $13,000.

oh, and did I mention i'm only 18, male and haven't even held my full D/L for a year yet. this, and the fact that I drive a "performance vehicle" only pushes my insurances costs up more...and its still nothing near $50 a week!

Hes an idiot, im sorry to say.

Right now, he needs to get the car valued and reinsured. As far as paying 13,000 for it. I dunno about that. But i coulda bought 2 of my curren, with less km's on it for that (And its newer)

I agree with you.

The funny thing is that he can't because of the way he is paying off the car the finance company decides the insurer and insured amount.

I will try and get a photo of the car as well just to reinforce what a rip off it was. Where the body kit fell off theres lots and lots of rivets poking out that are meant to be attached to the body kit.

I really have no idea how the bodykit can fall off if it was even fitted properly in the firts place. One of my sideskirts was hit on a curb at the speed of 50km/h and it only damaged it, didnt even move an inch. He obviously did the good old, 2 bolts and a bit of double sided tape :P

*Edit*

Your typical case of "Awesome a mean sacked out car for only 13 grand! Theyve said its so fast and with all these mods it would cost me 25 grand to do it! I need it" Kinda feel sorry for him. Kinda think hes an idiot at the same time.

Don't feel sorry for him. He's a knobjockey. He drives round at 5000rpm so everyone in town knows hes got a loud exhaust and he plays destiny's child really loud on his stereo with the sub cranked right up. (This is serious, no joke.)

I know a guy that brought a ae101 levin a year ago.... cost him $14500 by the time hes finished paying off the loan in 2 years (purchase price of about 12000 i think).

.....

Was stockish, with mags (about 140kms on the clock).

I think that guy was more ripped off than your friend.

I know something even worse though. Someone in my town bought a ae101 for $6000 about a year ago and that was on finance. 8O

To appreciate some of his gayness you need to see what he stood up in a school assembly and said. Unfortunately we only got the second part. Its here: http://steelesgay.tripod.com/ the part that was missed he said "I'm a homosexual."

Holy crap, that is a ripoff. How could someone pay that much for an ae101 and not even bat an eyelid.

I don't know. I meet him on my defensive driving course. He asked me how much I paid for mine, and I said 4k, and he asked wat was wrong with it. Cause he honestly thought they were worth around the 10g mark, and he thought it was fair to pay a couple of extra grand for a dealer warrenty...or something. Crazy person.

Thats incredible. Yeah people use that dealer warranty excuse all the time when really in the real world if something goes wrong after purchase you can't really do anything anyway.

Yes, but at the end of the day, if I was selling an AE101 or ST202, I'd want as much as possible as well, and if someone offered me over twice what I felt it was worth, I'd take it. I'm willing to bet, so would anyone here. Having a conscience doesn't factor into it, if people aren't willing to get a pre-purchase check and at least an independant valuation, then how is that my problem?

I've sold many cars with things that would've easily been picked up, if they'd been checked by an half-decent mechanic, but too many people come around, kick tyres, maybe run a magnet over the panels.. and hand over the cash. If they buy a $&#$% car.. its' their own fault, being young and stupid isn't an excuse either, even local garages offer a decent pre-purchase check for about $60.

Some people just have no idea on buying a car.

A guy I know was looking at two identical cars at two different yards.

One was 6000 and one was 8000.

He bought the 8000 one because they gave him $1500 for his trade in where the other yard would not take his car as a trade.

There was bugger all difference in the years spec's kms etc.
