Can do change of ownership, registration, exemptions and all that. even book lisences.

Just changed ownership into my name for a car i got last night and was easy as!

I just think the fees should be less as its not really using their people to do it... hmmm...

That has been on there for ages The registration online part was launched when I left LTSA two years ago!! The rest was rolled out not long after.

Most of the fees you are paying aren't for the actual administration costs. Next time you get your registration done ask to see the fee breakdown and you will actually find that the administration fee is not a large part of it.

And remember LTSA agents don't take credit cards normally, so any savings will be soaked up in the costs of the system and the transactions fees from the credit card companies.

My workmate bought a new car last year, he did the change of ownership online and somehow stuffed it up and instead of owning a $1500 car he then owned a $30,000 car somewhere in auckland

He rang the LTSA and told them what he had done, they said apparently it was a common thing and they would fix it

That happens,

All you need to be the registered owner of a car, is a rego number and your driver liscence, and pay the fee. The actual owner of the car will probably never know until they try and find out why they never got there form to renew their registration when they eventually get picked up at a checkpoint.

Tried to pay off an amount of reg due on a car I sold (no wof so couldn't get reg before sale), and they ONLY method of payment they would accept was a cheque. Creditcard nope, cash nope, bank transfer nope. Cheque or we send your account to baycorp. Bastards. I don't have a chequebook. Waited till it went to baycorp, and paid them with creditcard straight away over the phone, and cos it was within their 14 day lenience(sp?) period, no record. Yay baycorp (did I just say that??).

the catch with booking the licences on there tho, is that there is still paperwork that needs to be done when you go for the test, so it's not that great.

Different type of liscencing.. we were meaning vehicle liscencing (i.e. registration).

Snwtoy, that is pretty rough. I know that they won't let you re-register a car until it is warrented. But I can understand that you needed to pay off the owed amount before you sold it. Sounds like one of those stupid grey areas that never get fixed.

The reason they don't really cover that situation snwtoy is that there is an easy way around it. Assuming you were within 3 months of the rego running out you just put the car on exemption before you sell it. It backdates to when the rego ran out and you don't have to pay anything. If you were over 3 months though its really your own fault. The new owner is not caught by back rego if they get it on the road within the three months as the minimum exemption period does not apply if ownership changes.
