1. The limit for cars is 95dbA
2. Tests carried out at 4000rpm for engines 5-cylinder and smaller, 4500rpm for rotary engines, 4800rpm for (DOHC only) VTEC/MIVEC/VVT engines under 5-cylinder, 3200rpm for 6-cylinder, 3000rpm for 8-cylinder, 2500rpm for diesel engines.
3. Unfortunately the test does includes the de-acceleration, so engines will be held at the appropirate RPM based on engine type and then released so the revs fall to idle.
3. Exhaust systems that are tested will be photographed and their specifications (size, length etc...) noted.
4. Aluminium 'PASS' stickers will be attached to the rear muffler if the vehicle passes.
5. Vehicles with
mid-mounted, rear mounted engines get a +4dBA tolerance (so 99dBA limit)
6. Motorsport vehicles to which the owner is a member of a recognised motorsport club and the vehicle has an authority card and logbook get a +2dBA tolerance (97dBA limit)
