If I may digrees on this matter, I have heard from many knowledgeable sources, that with the timing adjusted, running on a lower octane will provide more power as long as there is no detonation.
An example (I guess) would be a bigport 4AGE, with the lower compression, making it less suseptable to detonation.

well if timing isnt advance with higher octane then u wont notice any differance
