Bilstein Shocks

Postby WanaGo » Mon Aug 14, 2006 9:07 pm

Hey,

Mate has a 97 Nissan Pulsar VZR N15 (series 2) hatch.
He wants to get new shocks, as his ones are rooted.

He is looking at Bilstein ones at the moment - and has asked me to post to find out if anyone has anything bad to say about these, or if they know of a good place to get them.

VNE-4798 Suspension Strut BILSTEIN - B4 Gas
Fitting Position Front Axle Left, Suspension Strut, Gas Pressure, Twin-Tube

VNE-4799 Suspension Strut BILSTEIN - B4 Gas
Fitting Position Front Axle Right, Suspension Strut, Gas Pressure, Twin-Tube

BNE-6348 Shock Absorber BILSTEIN - B4 Gas
Fitting Position Rear Axle, Gas Pressure, Twin-Tub, Bottom eye, Top pin

First two are L and R fronts, 3rd one is the rear type.
He has been quoted $850 inc gst total for fronts and rears.

Any comments would be a big help - he is hoping to buy them asap.

Cheers

nothing wrong with Bilstein shocks, in fact it wasn't that many years ago, that they were the only shock to use for race/rally use.

looks like a fair price for them

He has also been offered Monroes, not sure on model, for about $500. Ones for JN15 Chassis though.

Monroes good/bad/otherwise?

Hahahaha, comparing Monroe to Bilstein is funny. That price is pretty reasonable for them.

Yup, $850 is a fair price from my experience for a full set of Bilsteins.

Yea, my eyes just about popped out when I saw that Monroe's came into it!

I can't say that I've ever heard anything good said about Monroe's, and on the other side of the coin, I don't think I've ever heard anything bad said about Bilsteins!

The only place that the Monroes will have the Bilsteins beat is the price. But in a price to performance comparrison, the Bilsteins come out on top!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Consider getting the Bilsteins from the US, exchange rate isn't the best now but that was the cheapest method (by far) for my Alfa.

I have bilsteins in my Celica, these are the best shocks ever. The car is very stiff, but when you drive on bumpy road it does not bounce all over the place, as other brands do. I would get bilsteins over any other brand even if they were twice as much more expensive.
Don't even think about monroes, for the money you going to spend on those you are far better off getting genuine.
