Oh dear, what have I gotten myself into...

Postby liftback » Mon Sep 11, 2006 8:50 pm

After a long spell away from Toyota's, i've been bitten with the bug again and have just purchased a Ke20 rolling body that will be the base of a project.

Lets just say its some assembly required at the moment...

Hopefully I can stay committed to it in the long haul and make something choice out of it.

No pics at the moment, but theres not really alot to see

SPLURGE!

I've got a GZE bottom end a silvertop head engine all together with a T3 and been running but haven't had the time or money to make the KE20 shell mint enough to get around to mating them.

Take pics anyway, KE20 pics are good :)

Wher'd you manage to scam a 20 from?? Hope it's a good shell for you to work with at least. Get it running 1st then at least you will be able to cruise around to get a feel for what it may turn into if you put the gze/silvertop combination.
Altho if you change cars as often as your old man you'l have sold this and have something else before i wear my boots out - my boots are starting to leak

Buy fibre glass panels to replace all the panels on your car, lexan windows, strip it out and run a Turbocharged Hayabusa motor in it.

Trademe. The body is good, but not mint. Its a rolling body so it wont be running till its a finished project...

I think I go through cars faster than he does, but at the moment im willing to stick with the 20...

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=69536905 I'm considering this, however it doesnt have the oil squirters so i'm guessing its an early gze bottom end, which arent as strong? Plus there is the obvious problem of it needing a rebore. Can get oversized pistons from Warwick for $600, but is it really worth it? hmm...

early gze bottom ends are the strongest of the lot , they have the largest rods and lowest compression pistons.

you can buy my ae92 afm gze minus blower, with loom and computer if you're looking to rebuild... may just be a blown headgasket... could need rings

Cheers for that info. Ill be on the lookout for an early bottom end then, but not that one on trademe methinks (dont really want to fork out for brand new pistons).

Ive also found this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=69406932 looks like a pretty sweet deal, comments?

Haha old joff eh? What you doin on a toyota forum?

I've got some pics of the shell that i'll chuck up here once I can get them off the camera (technical difficulties...).

Ive been sorting through the parts and giving her a good look over, there is some rust that I didnt see before, but nothing major.

However the back bumper is a bit rotten so ill be on the lookout for a replacement (dont think it will be worth getting fixed & re-chromed)

This is gonna be a huge job.
