In my daily hack (XF Fairmont) my speedo has started playing up, So I have managed to pick up a cheap second hand one.

But of course the k's on the speedo are quite a lot less than the one in my car. Will this matter when I go to get a warrant or anything?

Or will no one actually care about it?

KM's are recorded with every warrant, so if you try and get one with different K's, you'll be getting a visit from the LTSA...

I believe there are places out there that do have legal authority to change speedo's for a replacement dash.

Although Ive also beeen told the above, for various reasions over the years I have fitted new clusters with vastly different readings and never once had anyone approach me about it.
Could it depend on cars age and who owns? (eg LMVD)

If you fit a new speedometer to your vehicle you will need to post or fax documentation with the odometer reading from the old speedometer and the odometer reading from the new speedometer to.. etc...

A note will be recorded on the Motor Vehicle Register (MVR) against the vehicle however, the odometer reading and the last inspection will not be changed.

I strongly recommend that you keep a copy of all documentation and receipts with the vehicle’s Certificate of Registration, which can then be handed over to each new owner.

DIgital speedo + signal generator = any kms you like just don't miss the point when to stop...

Just swap the old speedo back in for ya WOF

Then go back to new speedo for 6 months :lol:

so whilst knowing this rule exists- has anyone actually been chased up for not doing it? did you Adamal?
Just curious as I never have been. Looking back, one of my previous minis I virtually totally rebuilt everyting on- I set the km's to '0' starting fresh. I verbally informed the new owner this, but nothing from the ltsa etc ever happened. Have changed many because they stopped working, again, nothing happened.

I don't think its one of those things they chase up as it appears on many vehicles VIR reports, it would be impossible to chase them all up

If its playing up then you wont get a warrent with a dodgy speedo

Thanks for the suggestions, I managed to get another cluster for $20 yesterday, that has done 20,000 k's more than mine.. So I have just put that in. Now it looks like I did 20,000 K's over night.

Haha... It's not just a falcon, It's a fairmont! All electrics etc.....

We needed something with a towball, and it was gong to cost nearly $400 to get one fitted to our big car, one of my mates parents offered me this for $500.... so I basically brought my tow ball, and got a $100 XF Fairmont. :lol:

I'm thinking about selling my AW11, and buying a motorbike too. :oops:

But I've got to wait and figure out how much I can get for my MR2.

What about cars that have custom dashs that have a speedo with no odometer on it, say for a road going track/race car, how do they get on.
I was going to do that to the mini but now selling it.
