My first 20v experience (got the 4age/trueno set now lol)

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Thu Oct 26, 2006 1:42 pm

I bought my gf a really mint ae101 trueno 20v jobbie, I'd never actually driven a silvertop, just a friends blacktop which seemed to go pretty well with just a K&N pod filter.

Anyway, first impression was that it seemed really tame but wasn't worried because the engine is healthy as and is stock standard apart from a pod filter...sucking in hot air. Also the fact that its for the gf who is upgrading from an ee90 2e powered bonnet rippling beast.

Now that I've driven it a few times (and found a misfire  ) I really like it! Its great to be able to rev the nuts off of it. It makes no where near the power of my 4agte 16v or even my other late model 4agze but its just a nice engine to "play with" for lack of better words.

I guess I missed the response and rev happy-ness of N/A 4age's.

Also quite surprised how well it pulls from low speed in the high gears, I was expecting it to have no torque what so ever from what I hear people saying. I suppose people should just think about the fact that a 1.6L 4 cylinder will never be a torquey engine but still is pretty good for what it is.

Now I have to force myself not to do stuff to it when she's not looking! Im already thinking of ways to convince her that the Cat should be replaced by a straight pipe  ... Also some nice shocks and springs for when I'm driving

On a side note I came to realise that I now have a set of modern Trueno's! My ae86 Trueno and ae92 GTZ Trueno and her ae101 Trueno, I never set out to do this, it just sort of happened lol.

And also a set of the modern 4age's: Bigport 4agze(t), smallport 4agze and silvertop 20v.

Do I have a 4age problem?

ban ban!

It isn't possible to upgrade from an EE90. They are the pinnacle of all motoring, and all that is good.

I think the fumes from your 4k have gone to your head man...

EDIT: well actually... I'll let you in on a secret, I really bought her another car so I'd have the pleasure of using the EE90 while the 4agte is being dead. lol I have a soft spot for the lil shitter.

Lol its only 4 cars at the moment, can't really count the slowly shrinking GTZ. That'll go to the tip this weekend hopefully.

I might see if I can get a line up of the 4 truenos and take a pic, kind of like an evolution thing lol... ae86 -> ae92 -> ae101 -> ae111 (Jamies one)

When I had a 4k starlet sprint it wasn't any faster than Adam's starlet with its old 2k! Bit different now though lol

I fear that going 3k -> 4k will be a backward step in power, as this 3k actually is very willing, for what it is. But the 3k is very smokey, so is going through many litres of oil. Many.

Maybe you should have an oil drip tray bolted underneath and have a pump going straight back in the filler cap?

yeah/nah?

Much of the burning oil. So would need an exhaust collector that then changed the oil smoke back into oil, and poured it back into the tappet cover.

Thus my thought that an engine swap seemed easier.
