The term - front "bar"

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Wed Nov 08, 2006 3:31 pm

Where the hell did this come from? Was it one of the bling car mags that started it and all the cool kids now call it a bar and not a bumper?

I don't know why but it annoys me, its a bumper...how is it a bar?

Am I missing something?

werent they refered to back in the day as a 'bumper bar' as they were exactly just that, a piece of metal..

maybe 'front bar' is a bastardisation of the original term 'bumper bar'?

Hmmm that metal bar would make sense, but it seems to get referred to for something like a aftermarket fibreglass front....bumper.

To me it just sounds like since a car mag used a term - probably because they get tired of writing the same thing in each article so they experiment with words like "donk" for an engine or "bar" for a numper... then all of a sudden thats what kids start calling it.

Maybe its because I get annoyed with 'sheep' who just follow others?

In race terms they seem to call it a splitter, which makes sense if actually used for that purpose.

Also it could be called a front spoiler, but mostly referring to the bottom lip.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

An example of this would be in NZ V8's where the front "splitter" is used to split the gap between the 2 cars that haven't quite got the same corner exit speed as you, or are braking 10 meters before what you thought the correct braking point and using the front "spliiter" to push the cars wide enough apart for you to get through.
Adj splitting to cut things cleanly in half of more than one things into there respective pieces
