Taupo Trackday....

Postby 2jayzgte » Wed Nov 22, 2006 9:05 pm

Well done Chelles you did again good day well organised plenty of track time for all lots of interesting cars good day in my view.Big track at Taupo yep where do I start plenty of challenging corners and the back straight well I thought it would be faster but for me the quickest I went down there was 215 kph.

Just a couple of things to make your track days a little better official timing is something you should look at but apart from that the days run fairly smooth with no drama's.So guys and girls if you get the chance get in on these days they are all good..

The only downer for me was the 4 hour trek back to Welly now I'm just Rinsed...

P.S Hey Chelles is there a award for the first spin of the day it was the 3rd lap in the 1st group....lol..... :D

AFAIK you cant run official timing, as it them becomes a clubsport advanced event, and requires all sorts of other rules and officials to be present. Im sure leon will put you straight on that one.

Sounds like a fun day. Anyone got pics?

I have quite a few pics from the first Marshall point of just about everyone i think, If someone wants to host them I can e-mail to you if you give me an address to send to

I think the first spin of the day went ot BRADYZ in the white WRX didn't it? did it on his first lap on 3 consecutive corners

The older white supra was impressive, Man did that guy have a hard time keeping that in a straight line, was good to watch though.

Does anyone know what the deal with that Goldie colored Evo was? That thing was exceptionally fast, what was done to it?

You are all very welcome :D

I had a great day too and would like to thank Nick and Steve in the AE86’s for taking me for a ride. Nothing like chasing down a couple of STI’s and passing them!!
I was a little disappointed with the late 10am start, however being at the mercy of the track Admin is a reality sometime. It did seem that everyone got enough play time to satisfy.

As for doing timing... As the organiser I'm not allowed to run a timed event as it will deemed as a "competition event" which I am not licensed for and nor are most of the entrants. However if people wish to time themselves, have a timing system and record their individual times that is fine. The day is classed as "Driver Experience/Education" for people to have some legal high speed fun. In the future I might get sorted to be able to run events with timing etc but for now it's entirely up to the individual to record their own times.

I must say a very HUGE thank you to my flag Marshals. Toni, Ian, Dean, Stacey, Brendon and the great young guy at the end of the day (I have forgotten your name  ) Also a BIG thanks to Ben and Ken for their part in the day ... all legends the lot of you!!!!

At the next Taupo day I WILL be there with my car *nods lots*

Fantastic day cheers Chelles and Toyspeed. Was impressed my black and white project hung together in it's second shakedown. Over 200km of thrashing round Taupo and no problems to report (yay!!) Gotta get on with the build now.

Thanks again guys, and we'll see you at the track again one day.

haha, yeah, the mk3 supra was mine!! the back tyres are absolutely useless, japanese sunny's or something, so glad it wasn't raining, otherwise i would not have had traction anywhere!! was good getting it out on the track though, found several weakspots that i eed to examine and get sorted. oh, and the white mk4 supra was my dads one, n/a and auto, but as most of you saw, he was still out there having a blast!! but hell that thing can stop! braking well past the 100m board on the back straight, was amazing the cars i was catching under brakes into the corners! just to have them pull away again when they put their foot down

as for pics, my fiance took about 700 on my camera, and dad took about 6-800 on his one between stints out driving (joys of digital chelles  ) we'll have a sift through them and get them some of them up in the next few days, got a mint photo of the white and black r32 for the styley pics, and a very nice one of a crossed up R32 gtr. sites www.triplemphotos.com for those that want to have a nosey when they're up.

Awesome day Chelles :)

Great to meet up with some familiar faces again!

Enjoyed my battle with the Supra's in my last session.....learnt alot from Dave (60CUBA) that slick tires is really the only way to go when you have alot of power. My old street tires were making life interesting to say the least

Yep. Another awesome day.
In my normal fashion I had to stop after only a couple of session through fear of having to be towed back to Auckland...

Not much to sort out now on the old beast...

Roll on the next day...

Here's the story with the gold Evo III.......he cant register on this forum.

"I cant register for toyspeed, so Im hoping you dont mind posting on toyspeed for me.it wont accept free email address'

"Just wanted to thank Chelles for putting the day on. Really enjoyed the
first time out on the new circuit. To the gentleman who pointed out that
perhaps I shouldnt just chuck the car as fast as possible at the corner, i
appreciate your advice and hopefully I can fix the understeer issues and get
some better times.

To answer the question about the "gold" evo..its called "butter chicken
diohorea" and is the ex KOAS auckland 2004 winner, used to be called DRJKYL,
its running a fully built NRB motor and yesterday would have been pushing
approx 240kw @ the wheels. It does ok for a "trailier queen

thanks again and im looking forward to the next one, might even show up on
time :)"

the evo passed me down the back straight when i was in dads car, sounded absolutely awesome, and pulled quite a bit on me, thought i'd better test dads brakes out properly and late braked very close to the 50m board at the end of the straight and crawled right up behind him again  then he's out onto the front straight and gone, lol.

I thought I’d pass this on. I got this feed back from the track admin…

“Your group were awesome. No damage and no hassles”

Thanks to everyone who participated in the day. I love this sort of feed back and means we can keep running the day how I did yesterday…. Lots of track time, with good sized groups and lost and lost fun.

Mate you should try for a set of Semi Slicks with the AWD I think you'll be sweet and there road legal aswell.....

Thats the first time Dave has used slicks all round he normally just mixes and matches normally he just use's slicks up front and Semi's on the rear but with his car he needs to run them on all 4 corners as the semi's just don't do the job and his car is very tail happy with these tyres.

What a wicked day! Apart from crapping myself - on the second lap, first session, my brakes faded at the end of the straight - foot to the floor and carried on down the drag strip!!! SCARY! Turns out that trying to bleed brakes by yourself doesn't work too well.

Went home got the extra tools and bled them properly with the help of Jack (the great young guy at the end of the day) and the Wilcocks trolley jack - thank you! After that I had a lot more confidence.

Fastest I got to was 185 kph, braking just after the 150 marker. Could have gone later but the balls factor wasn't quite there. My new intercooler certainly helped.

Once again thanks to Chelles and co, what would we do without you?!

There were some quite impressive cars blasting round. You Supra drivers are clinically insane, surely? Lindsay did you figure out what went wrong with your car?

Got some pics video but still no capture card - who knows how to get video from a dvd handycam disc to mpeg files?!?
